I know some on here are well travelled, I am just wondering if any of you know of any very nice hotels that are within less then a two hour drive? My wife celebrates a milestone birthday and i'm wanting to give her a nice treat rather then a premier inn Thanks
Headlam Hall near Darlington. 1 hour 53 minutes away. Former jacobean mansion with spa and 4 poster beds. Close to Durham, Barnard Castle and high force waterfall. Best hotel I ever stayed in.
Crab and Lobster at Thirsk. Got married there, excellent venue with an award winning restaurant. The rooms are varied and luxurious and some come with their own hot tub. There’s also a free beer tap (lager, think it’s Amstel) which you can top yourself up with as often as you want. Bit pricey, but lovely as a treat.
Pier Hotel in Withernsea Definitely not a ****hole, I promise I'd love to show you the way, but I'm barred from the place
Crathorne Arms at Crathorne, between Northallerton and Middlesbrough. Owned by the people that used to have the Cleveland Tontine on the A19, food is great and rooms are reputed to be excellent. Don't go to the Tontine, the new owners have ruined it and sucked the soul out of the place.
Grantley Hall at Ripon is lovely, less than 80 miles away, but it'll cost a few bob please log in to view this image
Hotel Indigo, Walmgate, York. Lovely rooms. Easy walk to Parliament Street, Shambles etc . Great pub, Old Bluebell 5 mins away. Plenty of bars and restaurants close by.
The Tontine was a destination restaurant many , many years ago. Seem to remember the Mcoy Brothers owned it. I was working at Wynyard Hall at the time for Sir John Hall when he owned Newcastle Utd. Back on topic, the Hotel I'd recommend would be Moor Hall near Ormskirk. Fabulous setting, unbelievable food and bespoke accommodation. You would both certainly remember your visit.
Whatever you do this year she’ll expect it to be topped next year. Keep her expectations low & book into the ibis for the night. She’ll appreciate the Premier Inn next time you treat her.
If I'm doing that sort of thing I like to choose a hotel with a spa. Can't beat a swim and a sauna/steamroom in the afternoon, then your wife can have her face done while you're watching the footie results and having a drink! Decent meal in the restaurant, no driving, full english in the morning, can't beat it!
So drinking, eating, sweating and watching football. That's quite a departure from a normal Saturday..........!
