Brucie wasn't just a defender, he was one of the absolute best at scoring from set pieces in the league. If I am not wrong, it was a late Brucie header that won Sir Alex his first Premier League trophy at Man Utd.
I'll repeat what I said in the other thread, I think we should try Schar as a makeshift striker. Hear me out on this - our strikers either can't score for **** (Joelinton) or are permanently knackered (Gayle and Muto) .... then there Carroll who supports well when we comes on but doesn't get goals. People have said Joelinton drags the team down and we play better without him so we've gotta look at other options. Schar got goals from defence last season and has done the same this season. He's strong and tall and great at headers, and decent with his feet (remember that worldie vs Burnley). With most of our defenders back it's makes sense to try out something like this, Schar up front with Carroll supporting would be way better than what we've got now.
ummmm.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Scott I remember him being signed in the summer and then never hearing about him again. He got loaned to a Dutch second tier side last season.....the Dutch top league is a mickey mouse league, so he must be pretty **** if he's going to the Dutch second division. If he was any good Chelsea would have given him another contract then loaned him out, he never even played a game for them. His only first team experience is 14 appearances in a joke league and he's hardly a kid anymore (22 now), doubt he'll ever make an appearance for us tbh.
Honestly I don't care much for these stats, it's not particularly important. In the modern game, everyone is a good footballer. Not just the midfielders and attackers, even goalkeepers play from the back. So yeah, defenders now are a lot better at scoring goals. It's not like it was in the 90s and early 2000s when defenders just ran at the ball like a steam train and got a head to it. Now they're very skilful and quick to react. I say everybody now is a good footballer... apart from Atsu and Joelinton I suppose.
Just out of interest does anyone know who our highst scoring defender for a single Premier league campaign is? I'm thinking Dabizas or Albert possibly?
Kevin Scott got 11 apparently, Howey got 6, Darren Peacock got 4, Coloccini got 7, Bramble got 7, Woody, Boumsong and Marcelino got **** all. So looks like it's Saylor sadly.
10 apparently. He scored well in 3 seasons, but was pretty much constantly injured for the next 3 seasons then didn't get anymore. Liked him a lot, very bad luck with injuries, could've been awesome for us.
More than that, Bruce actually got 19 goals in 90/91! The fact he was Man Utds regular penalty taker helped as well. He never got bear that total again, but scored goals in every season at Man U.
That would in one swoop surely end Joelinton's career. He would simply never shift the tag of being dropped for a CB
