Looking for a little help. Looking to take my good lady to Oxford for the weekend when we play them in February. Looking at the hotels in the city centre they appear to be quite expensive. Are there any nice towns / villages outside of the city centre to stay where things may be a little less expensive. It’s an area neither of us have visited before. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Don’t mind a short drive into Oxford or jumping on a bus. Thanks.
I'd recommend the Falkland Arms in Great Tew - a wonderful place full of thatched cottages. (ah - it's sold out for that weekend ) Abingdon, Wantage will be cheaper. Anything near the Cotswolds will be even more expensive. You could always stay at the Holiday Inn next to the Kassam Stadium
Thames Valley Mackems / WiseMenSay have an event at a brewery in Reading which includes a coach to and from the Oxford game. Hotels in Reading are a lot cheaper
For anyone who doesn't know him, Whitty is a great bloke who I'd trust with my life ... ... if I lived local I'd put them up without any bother.
Thanks @Smug in Boots . Hope your well and all is going well in France. Will you be going to the Oxford game.
Thanks for information. Even after 40 yrs of marriage I don’t think I’d get away with the Holiday Inn at the ground.
Good luck with that one. I’m lucky she’s quite happy for me to go to the match and leave her to shop in peace without a grump moaning about another shop.
I’m hoping for general sale, me and the bairn have like 4 points each. I do believe there should be a 1-9 mark for away games rather than starting at 10. I do realise this doesn’t help you
