It can happen any night in any town. Over 35 years ago I worked for the GLC and had a YTS trainee who was a Millwall supporter, he went to an away match at Sheffield Utd and had drink in town that evening, got into a ruck with some United supporters and lost his balance falling backwards cracked his head on the corner of the kerb. He never recovered, just 18 years old. His funeral was one of the most heartbreaking I have attended, a total waste of a bright future, his parents never got over it both passing away within a few years...
Thanks for your thoughts gents. He's in and out of conciousness, but the docs are pretty sure he's going to be ok. In a lot of pain today apparently, and very confused, but they expect him to improve over the next 24 hours.
Good to hear, I'm sure you'll give him everyone's regards for a speedy recovery. Hope the bouncer gets what's coming...
That's so weird, was just reading about him this morning as LeBron James has just overtaken him to.become the third highest points scorer in NBA history.. Tragic news for fans of basketball
I saw that on Twitter this morning, he's with the Lakers as well. Must be a bittersweet feeling, so sad...
That's so tragically sad, Kobe was one of the greatest sportsmen ever. What he did and achieved as a person transcends Basketball. For many Americans, this will be like the Princess Diana death. Just heard that his 13 year old daughter has also died in the crash. Dreadful news. RIP Kobe Bryant
I’m in the US this week. I’m not a fan of basketball though I know Bryant’s name. He’s getting praise from all quarters here, though his past was less than pristine.
Yes, prosecuted for raping a 19 year old hotel employee. Looks like he bought her off and the prosecution was not proceeded with after the victim refused to give evidence. So no angel. So sad for his 13 year old daughter who died alongside him. Helicopters and foggy conditions are uneasy partners. Though the Leicester City owner, Vichai's helicopter suffered a broken pin in the rear blades which sent the machine into a death spin. I see that Alan Sugar has decided he won't be taking any more helicopter flights.
He was still working until recently. I can remember him in the 60s being the straight man on the Arthur Haynes Show. He also once held the world record for the longest after dinner speech, 11 hours! A unique broadcasting talent and a record unlikely to bettered of broadcasting longevity. RIP...
Life's weird sometimes mate. I was only thinking about him the other day and how at his age he was still working and as sharp as ever. Very sad. A really gentleman with amazing wit. Put a lot of these so called modern presenters to shame.
