It was reported we offered a £15m loan fee with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer, presumably for the remainder of the fee (although likely thrashed down to, say, £35m + the loan fee - and, yes, I acknowledge I pulled that figure out of thin air) Then it dawned on Sociedad that there was a very good reason why that deal sounded too good to be true
To be honest I kinda hope we do not sign anyone else cos watching @Spurlock going full would be great
Not one to tell other teams supporters what they need but will make an exception with this. Leave well alone, he is immense in his own mind but **** in reality.
If it's as a short-term fix to boost options before finding a long-term solution in the summer, I wid. Wanyama and Dier are done and Sissoko is probably out for the rest of the season. It's a little too early to rely on Gedson to partner Winks and neither of them have the physical presence Can does, while Tanguy (if ever actually fit) is much better given a free rein. I see it as a nice stop-gap allowing Gedson to settle and giving us more time to move Wanyama and Dier on without panic buying. Amos has hit a bit of a block at QPR recently after impressing over the xmas period but perhaps he or Gedson can be the long term solution to the DM problem.
Don't really think Can would be a short term fix though, he's still only 26 so signing him will be pricey and he'd likely be on a minimum of a four year deal. As Diego pretty much said, the guy is amazing in his own mind but very, very average to everyone else. If Diego's mates in Manchester fancied offloading Matic this window then I'd take him on a short term deal. Seen his best days but still better than Dier/ Wanyama, knows the league, knows Jose and his deal ends in the summer (I think) so should be cheap if Utd wanted to make a little dough out of him.
He knows the league too - I do think that signing players in Jan who have never played here is fraught with danger so I agree that as a short term fix we probably can't get a much better fit for our needs
When he first came back from injury i would have put a word in for you but right now he is playing very well so **** off
I agree about Matic but he ain't going anywhere this side of the summer, not with Mctominay injured and the current atmosphere at OT. They'd riot if he moved to the club below them in the league on GD. As CM mentioned, he knows the league well. But yeah, hadn't realised he's only 26 . Loan with an option to buy is the best we Can hope for. Also think of all the puns we can make that we missed out on when we didn't sign Cengiz Under.
Not sure Ollie Skipp will enjoy reading that post. Are we giving up on him. He's been really impressive whenever I've seen him play.
