As a new manager, coming into a desperate situation, you'd make a priority of utilising your senior players, especially one with McGeady's talent. On the face of it he would've been made a guaranteed starter and, most likely, captain of the side. Yet, despite this, the new manager chose to not only put his neck on the block but sharpen the axe and slip the executioner an extra few quid. So even if what I and others posted, about engineering arguments and bullying our young lads, is nonsense there must be a big big reason for Parkinson's actions. If he'd ostracised one of the supporters most popular players, and failed to get results, he'd have lost his head. Surely we only want players who are totally committed to the team ... ... if anyone chooses to believe we're better with McGeady in that team that's their prerogative. But he's currently not here and we all need to forget him and get on with the task ahead.
There's no doubt in my mind that the rumours about McGeady's behaviour were true because of how Parkinson's actions, he wouldn't do that lightly as you say. It's madness to me to advocate for having players like that in the squad they need rooting out and booting into touch. The fact that he's been crap all season makes it a no brainer to get rid. Parkinson handled the situation perfectly.
If he ends up with Ross that'll smack of prior collusion which is borderline illegal or, at best, against league rules. There was quite a nasty little Ross clique by the looks of things.
Do you remember the outrage when it all kicked off. The number of our fans who backed McGeady over Parkinson. They all seem to have shrunk off back into their holes now!!
Your post is baffling! Let's look solely at the cold hard facts this season. McGeady has been poor all season. Since day one. Other important players have been far better since he's been out of the picture Just because we've had "more disruptive players" in the past - should we keep hold of him? Have our fans backed these disruptive players? He was excellent last season - but utter garbage this - so should we keep hold of him because of sentiment or back him for the same reason? Good riddance for me
See ya later Geads. Thanks for last season but this season, well... bag of ****e springs to mind so glad he's gone. Hope he does well enough to make someone want to take him in the summer.
I'm very rarely unhappy with what our fans are chanting, but when they started singing the McGeady song on Boxing Day, I was seriously pissed off.
Not many were towards the end but I think that was down to Ross' tactics personally. He was named player of the season for last season for a reason.
Rodwell was more of an ethereal intangible concept than a real flesh and blood person, I'm not sure he was ever physically manifested for long enough to have an effect either positive or negative on anybody.
Oops, didn't mean to accidentally like this post. In answer to your question, i think the answer is that he "appeared" good. Looking at Ross's tactics it seemed like it was get the ball to Mcgeady. Now, when it worked it worked, but when it didn't it slowed down our play and the seflish scots/irish git still tried to beat 3 men with his predictable cut inside and shoot which the other sides sussed out. With him in the team we were one dimensional. It's a bit like the kid in the playground who thinks he's better than everyone else yelling out "kick it to me". JR came to believe that McGeady would be the saviour to the detriment of the rest of the squad. Judging by the reports of bullying McGeady believed he was as well.
The shìte aimed at Parkinson over it at the time man . People screaming for parky's head and McGeady to stay. I posted at the time it took bollox for parky to get rid of him and he would go up in my estimation if things improved after it. They have and the players look far more confident and enjoying themselves now. It reminds me of the Reid era with that team spirit and thats what we need to drag us out of this shìt league imo.
Parky has certainly made sure he is the alpha male concerning players at Sunderland. Now we shall see... obviously matters have improved hugely since I wanted him gone... I have absolutely no problem with him and his squad continuing to produce results... in fact I would love it... Tomorrow is a big game, not only because Portsmouth is on a great run so any sort of result is cause for celebration, but also cos the team is definitely now Parkies, following the leavers and joiners in this transfer window...
Was it against Man UTD at home by any chance? I was also there. A header from a corner if I remember rightly. Was in the black cats bar, with my then new girlfriend. She wasn't that impressed by the game, but loved the seats haha. I took her to goodison park later on that season, we won 0-2, there was no need to support your legs that day, the atmosphere kept you afloat.
