Tom says there was no contact, certainly looks like a clear tap to me and it was intentional. That one decision changed the whole outcome in my opinion.
Completely agree. Yeah we might not have gone on to win, but ****ing hell, it'd be a lot closer than it appears right now.
Worth remembering that whether or not it was a penalty, that decision did not directly lead to their goal. We still have to defend from that point as if Liverpool had made the cleanest of tackles.
I must say it doesn't do much to give credibility to the criticism of referee performances to go straight to 'they are biased' and the 'LiVARpool conspiracy' stuff. The issue is very much with the quality of refereeing, not with the honesty of refereeing. As long as fans are railing against the former it only lessens the pressure for there to be any change, as decision makers will dismiss the noise as standard footballing fare - fans displaying irrational partisanship and the usual give and take of football. I know I'm basically arguing with the wind here but I'll stay true to form and do so anyway.
Difficult to argue that it isn't a penalty. But I'm still fine with VAR not overturning it. And there's little point trying to use that particular replay to argue against VAR, because VAR only reviews at real speed.
Yes. The VAR review would have taken place whilst play was continuing, and if the decision was penalty then it would have come back for it.
This is my view too. The whole problem with VAR, though, is that the decisions are still left to incompetent referees, either on the pitch or at Stockley Park.
I mean the contact on the Ings play is kind of minimal, but when you catch someone’s foot, that’s all you need to trip them. But Liverpool probably could have had a pen earlier so it evens out. It’s not worth arguing about, IMO. The score line is a little harsh, but Liverpool fully deserves the win. We played well, but they are just unstoppable right now.
What ever happened to Romeu? That season as best player and then, so slow, a shadow of the same guy. Hate to say it, but i feel he doesnt offer us enough in midfield
And I have complete confidence in the boys being able to put this behind them. We've played well and lost against top sides in the past, and I've often been worried about it harming their confidence ("we even win when we play well" etc). But not these days.
