Yeah, he looks fine, and then suddenly doesn't. Wish we could fix that. But he did win a couple headers, now if he can start doing that consistently, then the battles half won!

You have obviously not been to the Estadio Balears then, the home of Athletic Baleares!

Umm the last month's Winter transfer window. I agree that the team on the whole is playing out of their skins but it's very frustrating to watch them concede 7 goals in the last two games despite being the better team for almost all the majority of them due IMO to a lack of depth in defence.
I'm criticising the club for not covering and strengthening the central defence area not the personnel, why did we not replace Maya if we were going to let him go? and i'm not the only Saints fan that has reservations about apparent Vester's slowness on the pitch. the second and third goals came right through the middle and the CB's were miles apart from what I saw.
I said before January that whilst being happy with Jack and Bedders, any situation that sees Vester with time on the pitch we will concede goals and as I say, i'm not alone in thinking that. Maybe with a quality CB we could still be in the cup and possibly challenge for a Europa Cup place but I doubt it if we let in as many as we are despite playing so well. Just my opinion though.

And as I quoted before even Ralph was frustrated with our defending at the end of the match.

I've never claimed we are doomed, I just would like to see more reward for the excellent play that the team is producing on the pitch atm.

Not too upset at the result overall. Extremely lucky deflection and a gift from the officials.

We are much better than before, but still not quite clinical enough on goal. The defense looks a little shaky right now with all the injuries. While I do think we held up okay against Spuds and were just unfortunate, I am not sure how well we do against a better.

Not upset, just a bit annoyed.

If there was a quality CB available, at the price we could afford and who wanted to come then that would have been a chance. It’s a bit like saying I missed a chance to get my Porsche cos the garage was open.

We have to understand that our model requires us to sell before we buy. And for the quality we need, that means 3 or 4 to fund one purchase. Patience. So long as we keep the back room set up with Ralph, we’ll get there.

I will say a negative from tonight which Ralph needs to look at. I noticed when PEH misplaces a pass or loses possession he *jogs* (or even ambles) back. Compare that to Ings haring back to regain possession.

He needs a word in his ear, does PEH. It’s very obvious watching it live.

The ings goal was one of my favourite ever saints goals, I think. That redmond run was ridiculous, and the limbs when ings slotted it were mad <laugh>

To be fair, Bertrand made a pathetic dive in their area in the second half too.

Can't get angry at Son since we've cheered the likes of Djenepo, Tadic, Boufal, Jay Rod and more going down like they've been shot week in week out.

Looking at the bigger picture, a cup run was just a bonus this season. The real prize - considering the mess we were in a couple months back - is survival.

And hopefully this means Spurs are more content with Mourinho, and further away from poaching Ralph.

Let's just enjoy the rest of the season as we are playing our best football of the last 3-4 years right now. Enjoy each game, and remember at least we are not West Ham.

Maybe. Not a lot between the keepers IMO. Gunn has come back really well from that Leicester game (albeit he’s only featured in the cup). Good to have 2 decent keepers.

Was at the game and have not seen highlights but have read the bbc report and your manager ain't complained about the penalty.
Thought you played really well and on another could have won. Kind of reminded me of the game at St Marys last season when we battered you for an hour but lost 2-1 ... you dug in and showed greater will power (and some skill) and we did a similar thing today.
Long was immense (wanted us to buy him 3 or 4 years ago but we went for Janssen and then Llorente) as was Ings.
Always had a soft spot for you lot after we came up together back in 1978 when I was a kid...still remember listening to that final game of the season updates on the radio when s draw would send both of us up st Brighton's expense.
Hope Ward-Prowse is not as badly hurt as it looked.

Good point about the 2-1 last season. Definitely robbed you that day.

Been a decent battle between the two of us recently which is good considering you were kind of our bogie for the first few years back in Prem.

Don't take the hate personally. Everyone on here seems to hate all the big clubs.

Plus you nicked Poch, Hoddle, several players and a song. And of course the Rosental hat trick still hurts to this day <laugh><laugh><grr>.

But anyone who likes Shane Long is good in my book. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Shame for JWP that his every minute in all comp's streak was broken, that was a stat worth being proud of.

Really felt that was a lead to be sitting on, personally. Spurs had no orthodox strikers and no aerial threat, their threat was behind us and between the lines and we were too brave or too foolhardy to stay with our aggressive, open strategy at 2-1. Especially with our defence jumbled, at that point the formula was already muddled.

With our line a few yards deeper and our CMs tethered in front of our CBs, it would have taken something special for them to break us with the personnel they had available. As it was all it was going to take was them beating the press against tired legs or making one man miss in midfield to expose us.

Now I can see a number of reasons Ralph might have been reluctant to drop off and protect what we had - not least that he has been slated for doing so in the past when it has gone awry - but that was the time, for me.

Ralph on far too many occasions as Saints manager has appeared as someone having to work with his hands tied behind his back. Very often for well-known and heavily discussed reasons quite firmly beyond his control. But I do continue to get the impression that still sometimes he finds his own way into those bindings - even if only by contorting to such lengths to avoid the usual causes. I don't know if that was the reason he felt unable/unwilling to twist rather than stick last night, but it raised these ponderings again with me. His next step, next area of growth as a manager, in my opinion. I hope he makes that step whilst still with us.

Rocket Ronnie was at the lane at half time taking about THAT match :bandit:
Games between us have often produced something special...
In the 1990s we once scored 4 in 4 minutes.
You knocked us out of the cup 4 nil on my birthday in 2003 and my youngest (who went last night was ony 4 days old!).
Under boring boring Arsenal we once went 4 games without scoring and on the 5th beat you 7-2!
And to even things up you slapped 3 -1 or 3 nil and Hoddle was sacked the next day!

Our manager has not complained about the penalty because he’s a proper gent. And also because he knows we only have ourselves to blame for letting the game slip away.

You were asleep for 75 minutes; when you woke up and started playing, we got taken complete by surprise. Strange game really.
