Watch "The Style Council - Shout To The Top (Official Video)" on YouTube Blaming me fatha for this. I used to do everything I could to resist his choons but I'm 37 now and I've given in. They don't make em like this anymore.
Chris a-ah Savior of the Universe Chris a-ah He'll save every one of us (Seemingly there is no reason for these extraordinary intergalactical upsets) (Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha) (What's happening Chris?) (Only Doctor Hans Zarkhov, formerly at NASA, has provided any explanation) Chris a-ah He's a miracle (This evening's unprecedented first half is no cause for alarm) Chris a-ah King of the impossible He's for every one of us Stand for every one of us He save with a mighty hand Every man, every woman Every child, with a mighty Chris (General Kala, Chris McGuire approaching.) (What do you mean Chris Mcguire approaching? Open fire! All weapons! Dispatch war rocket Ipswich to bring back his body) Chris a-ah (McGuire's alive!) Chris a-ah He'll save every one of us Just a man With a man's courage You know he's Nothing but a man And he can never fail No one but the pure at heart May find the Golden Grail ...Oh..Oh........Oh..Oh.... (Chris, Chris, I love you, but we only have 10 minutes to save the Match!) Chris
At 65 I still go to see new music and there's some good stuff out there. But I keep going back through YouTube, etc listening to music I disregarded at the time because I was 'too cool' ... ... and, compared to the modern charts, some of it is glorious. This recent anthem is dedicated to Stewart Donald and his involvement with Sunderland
If you enjoy music whereby those performing are expected to be able to actually sing and/or play (without resorting to computers) you do appreciate that makes you a 'Luddite' in the eyes of @FulwellBri?
My main problem with much of the modern music is that it's 'too good' ... ... by which I mean perfectly produced and totally safe. Music for control freaks and people scared to leave the house.
You forgot (I think) to mention the absence of the emotion contained in the recordings/performances from when we first started listening. These days it appears that they are just reading the lyrics/playing? the notes without them having any real meaning.
There is loads out there that isn't over produced and safe, problem nowadays is finding it as the big record companies have learnt over the years what sells and only really promote that. It's why the vast majority of radio channels play the same 15/20 songs over and over again.
Nah, artists now have just as much emotion now. You just don't hear it as you're stuck in your era and don't like what you hear now. The same will happen to young folk now, when they hit 40/50+ they'll think the new music scene then is **** and lacks emotion as you do now.
What I'm talking about is the difference between chart music then and now. Of course there are brilliant people making great original music but it's harder to find than it used to be. There's much less variety in popular music now. My last three gigs were Eivor, LP and Nathaniel Rateliff which is pretty diverse and certainly not stuck in any era.
