Ah sorry, misread that as Smith winding down when he joined us doh. But he was only really winding down when he left us because his career had gone completely down the tubes as a result of his stint with us.

Beardsley's second stint with us was better, but he was still outstanding in his first spell.

I'm not sure how you can regard Pistone as anything other than a flop though.

Beardsley is wrong forgot he started with Carlisle,Vancouver before us,he certainly wasn't a flop when Liverpool bought him.The OP was flop with us,left and went on to better things and there wasn't that many.

No, the OP was flop with us that you *wished* had been better and gone on to better things.

i.e. players you expected big things of who didn't deliver.

By your definition, only the likes of Jon Dahl Tomasson and Luuk De Jong really qualify, and I don't think anyone really has any confidence either of them would have been a success regardless of how long they'd stayed.

I missed the "wished" bit:cheesy: and in that case you could name at least half our team from the last 20 years<whistle>

Boumsong went on to play for Juve? Really wished he hadn't been ****, especially since he was paired with Bramble in defence.

Anybody who played football manager around the time would also have been gutted at how ****e Seydou Doumbia was for us.

Sir Bobby famously dropped a clanger there as he had the pick of him or Ronaldo but thought Viana had more skill. I guess he saw him as more of a Figo.

He also picked Carl Cort when he could have bought Eidur Gudjonsson.

And Nicky Butt when he could have got Michael Carrick.

    He can't have been surely?

He was on loan from us to Sporting then, so we wouldn't have let him play against us while he was our player!

We learn to put in clauses against that after Lomana Lua Lua scored for Portsmouth against us whilst playing for them on loan from us!

    Thus far, yes.

I would say Xisco was a flop, but I don't think anyone was expecting anything from him in the first place.

Didn't win the cup, Sporting lost the final. He played a full season, but he can't have been that great cos they sent him back to us.

Got an unmissable tap in on his debut, it wasn't exactly Puskas award worthy.

Xisco had a chance and played games for us (he was with us for 5 years!), we was just in the reserves all the time cos he was clearly nowhere near first team quality.

Wasn't there an issue regarding appearances triggering extensions and pay increases from his original contract? Very strange signing along with Ignacio González (Nacho). It's almost like we had to take them to get Coloccini & Jonas!!
