BBC Gossip column - and I stress 'gossip'- hint that, due to an 'injury plagued' time in Italy, Ramsey is looking to return to England with the usual suspects interested in sign him (Arsenal included). Made me ponder - would I take him back? Yes, on balance I would. Would you?

The same injury plagued player we let go as he ran his contract down - not sure we would want to buy him back

I would take him but for sure Ramseys career is basically 2 months fit - 7-8 months out then 2 months regaining full fitness on a constant cycle.

Fully fit on form he's a very good player but that's pretty rare.

I did think it was something in our training regime that caused all these injuries - as we have history of them: Walcott, Welbeck, Ramsey, Ox, wilshere, and of course Diaby.

Perhaps it’s actually the players themselves as they all continue to have injuries having left us.

all above were/are good players on their day, but their day isn’t often enough.

the fact that Ramsey gets £400k a week to lie in another teams sick bay is their problem and not ours - so no to him coming back

Ramsey was always average (apart from that 13-14 season), and it looks like my prediction of him only lasting 1-2 seasons at Juventus may be coming true.

Not good enough for a top 4 side IMO, and definitely not now.

Would he improve what we currently have? probably. Would he get us to the level we want to be (champions league)? No.

We absolutely used to have problems with our training in this regards.

But Ramsey has had some substantial surgeries over the years which are extremely difficult overcome. Generally if you have to keep your weight off one knee/foot/ankle you develope imbalances that cause problems in the other leg. The guy has had soo many injuries he will have developed near permanent problems/weaknesses. Not to mention the fact that any knee or ankle surgery is almost certain to bring on some level of arthritis.

Unless he starts using PED's or can go a significant time without a new injury they will just keep reoccurring.

Would I take him back given the current state of our midfield? In theory, yes. But I would not take Ramsey back at all costs. He is 29 years old, on high wages and is injury-prone.

In reality, I don't see this happening.

I agree that it is unlikely but was intrigued to see what others thought

Bild claiming Arsenals TOP summer transfer target is Jonathan Tah.

The centre-half has a £33million release fee at Leverkusen according to Bild, but Arsenal will have to move quickly as this expires in June.
Tah is expected to make the Germany squad for the European Championship this summer. He has nine caps for his country.

The 6'4 (95kgs) German should have no problems adapating the the physicality of the Premierleague.

Imagine Saliba and Tah as a backline! would be nice to have that 'intimidation' factor back at the Club.

David Villa has come out and said he was 90% sure he would move to Arsenal before signing for Atletico. He wanted to play for Wenger but the deal didn’t get done.

Over the Wenger years post Emirates move I think our board let down Wenger on the transfer front repeatedly. If they’d delivered I think he would have won a lot more in the second half of his time at the club.

I'm not sure we would have won a lot more in terms of Premier Leagues and European titles (reaching 1 UEFA Cup final and 1 CL final in 22 years is quite poor IMO, Wenger never did that well in Europe), but we definitely would have had a more competitive side.

I actually read an interview with Dick Law and, by his own admission, the main men at the club responsible for transfers were overtly cautious - including himself. This totally risk-averse approach to signing players was not healthy.

However, Wenger did seem to earn the right to have a lot of control at the club. So I do believe he himself was also partially responsible for the type of players we signed, many of whom flopped in his latter years, and he did have a say regarding player contracts. I also believe he was too loyal to certain players that frequently underperformed (Almunia being a prime example).

Collectively, my belief is both the board and Wenger let us down.

Wenger definitely persisted with players for too long and had his favourites.

But for me when Wenger had identified targets he wanted the board should have gone out and got them. If Wenger had too much control that’s down to the board.

Don’t get me wrong Wenger had his flaws that were highlighted towards the end of his time with us but for me the board should take responsibility for the years in between his successful period and his last few years when we were only ever a couple of players away from being truly competitive and they missed repeated targets by messing up the transfer negotiations.

Doesn’t surprise me Law has admitted they were too cautious. Going that little bit further could have had great results and prolonged our time near the top.

How many seasons were we 1-2 players away from a title challenging team in the latter Wenger years?

How many fans wanted us just to take that one extra step just one summer, and we never did.

How many players are we short now? Ugh.

Agree particularly upfront. Remember all that time with Arshavin down the middle? Also 2008 when Eduardo broke his leg (we were 5 pts clear at the top at that point and ended up finishing 3rd).

Part of the issue though was we knew we had a top striker for many years in RVP - he was just constantly injured.

with us reporting a financial loss for the first time since 2002, does that mean we will be more withdrawn in the transfer market this summer? Does it mean we will have to sell some of our better players?

something tells me both of those things are correct.

Yeah - I think money availble will mainly be through sales.

When you look at are CB's: Chambers, Holding, Mustafi, Sokratis, Luiz, Mari ast LEAST one of those will go. (particularly considering Saliba is coming in)
With the emergence of Saka I expect Kolasinac will also be sold.

Elneny and Mkhitarian will almost certainly be offloaded. Ospina will probably be sold off also.

Will they keep both Laca and Aubameyang - with Martinelli/Pepe/Nketiah on the books? (I really hope we can keep Auba but will be tough.)

The big one though is Ozil - I dont think he warrants that £350kw salary and they will look to replace him.

Ornstein reporting Arteta is looking to tie down Laca and Auba this summer to longer deals and add THREE top players.
A Centreback, A Defensive Midfielder and an Attacking midfielder.
