If that had stood, they'd be riots on Boscombe pier! That was lower arm, NOT the shoulder! <laugh>

Andre Gomes on the Everton bench today. Great to see him back.

Regardless of what happens tomorrow night, West Ham have got away with this weekend.

I think they were both handball. The first one from the corner hit him below the shoulder IMO but it would probably have been allowed before the handball laws were changed. The second one that led to the penalty was more clear cut. It was unfortunate because the wind seemed make the ball move around in the air but his arm was sticking out at 90 degrees to his body.
The thing that gets me is taking play back for the penalty after Bournemouth had scored. This is one of the problems with using VAR, how far back are they going to go? If Bournemouth hadn't scored straight away the ball could have been in play for quite some time.

When VAR was first used in a game in Germany (I think) there was an incident just before half time. It was still being reviewed as the players came off the pitch for the break. It was then decided that it was a penalty and all the players had to come out of the dressing rooms to take the penalty.
Yesterday's decision wasn't as bad as that granted but there are signs that our refs are capable of it. It wasn't a good day for VAR yesterday.

It comes down to what happens sooner: the ball going dead (at which point the referee will delay the restart) or the VAR coming to their conclusion (at which point the referee can intervene and stop the game). It's nothing to do with how far back things are going. You're right though, the ball could have been in play for some time. Just like the ball can sometimes be dead for some time.

Yesterday was a rather unique circumstance of the ball going dead as a result of the other side scoring. Often it will be the ball going out for a thrown in, or a FK being given in the middle of the park etc.

That said, if it's taking quite some time to reach a decision, then how can it be said to be a clear and obvious error.

I still don't think they seem review things properly if it doesn't go out of play tbh. I think they have said it's limited to phases but a 'phase' isn't clearly defined anywhere as far as I can see.

I'm willing to bet we'll never see a Liverpool/United home goal overturned to give the opposition a penalty though.

Just saw Watfords disallowed goal. Should have been a penalty to Watford imo as when the cross came in, Maguire had both his arms around Deeney before the ball hit Dawson on the arm. I also think giving things like that as handball is very harsh.

This week only Brighton in the bottom 6 actually gained anything - the rest the same as you were.

*Assuming that West Ham lose tomorrow.

Everyones assuming West Ham will lose. No doubt they'll pull one out of nowhere and be the ones to beat Liverpool.
