My poor knowledge of this particular virus is that it can easily caught just like flu or the common cold...

It is a respiratory disease, 80% of those catching it, will be fine, 18% may need hospitalisation (although there is no cure) and about 2% might die. This is a little higher than flu deaths?

A cure is needed quickly, I have no idea how close any research is to finding one.

For me it’s just flu with a different name.
1000’s of people die from flu, usually older people who have underlying health problems so there are no figures that relate to flu related deaths.
Personally I think the scaremongering is ridiculous

It’s crackers, people not wanting to fly to different countries, it’s already in this country, so there is as much chance they carry it abroad as catch it while abroad. The problem is it’s having massive implications

I read somewhere last week that this country had 30,000 flu related deaths last year, and your right it's those with other health issues end up being lumped into this seemingly high figure.
20 years ago my father in law who had severe dementia died from pneumonia which started as a heavy cold and this was down to his inability to fight what started off as the common cold.
This is nothing new and the figures being bandied about in this country need to be put into context but the media love a good scare story don't they.

There will be some financial issue with this or do the governments of this world want a human cull? Maybe a bit far fetched but a virus is normally contained. This was basically stuff this lets just let people leave and fly anywhere.

This exactly, and the story of your father in law is exactly the type of scenario I meant. The media need shooting with ****, they usually do, but they’ve gone into overdrive with this

Or is it media speculation going into overdrive so other nasty things brought in by Govts can slip through the net.

There is a pattern forming here from me. I do not trust governments.

I actually had my annual check up at the GPs with the Nurse today, Coronvirus naturally came up... she made the same point as you, "if people knew how many died from flu each year, we would have everyone queuing up for their flu jab:

Yep, I already thought it was out of proportion and then it was actually my dentist yesterday who said about it being a different type of flu and the numbers who died from it

The mortality rate isn't much higher than flu. Same demographics need to be careful.

Banning public events is ridiculous. Its contagious during the incubation period, which makes it impossible to control unless you tell everyone to stay at home for the next 4 weeks.

Basel carnival just got cancelled. The mma fight night at the Basel Casino got cancelled. Because 2 cases confirmed this week. This is blown all out of proportion imo.

My understanding is that it is more contagious than the normal flu strains which will inevitably lead to more deaths.l had planned to fly home via South Korea but have now routed via Dubai. So instead of being taken down by Coronavirus will be taken down by Iranian missile!

That's what happened with my Dad. Started off as a cold with a water infection and eventually it developed into pneumonia which he wasn't strong enough to fight.

Closed doors will be better than ending everything.
But as others have said, we've had bird flu and swine flu ffs and the media whip up a frenzy and modern day social network folk grip it like a claustrophobic Acrophobic riding a rollercoaster in a cave.

I've booked flights to go back to the UK for a few matches.

I hate air travel at the best of times because I have to share the plane with people coughing and sneezing everywhere and seemingly incapable of using a tissue or washing their hands in the toilet ...

... this new virus is just another invisible hazard to try to ignore.
