Shortlist was chosen by the following: Emma Hardy MP, Katy Duke (CEO of The Deep), Councillor Daren Hale (deputy leader of the Labour Group), Karen Oliver-Spry (Humber LEP investment programme manager) and key members of the internal Highways England Project Team. I guess they were pandering to what the feel the Hull demographic wants. The worst bit is that the name will be chosen by votes placed into 5 publically located voting boxes. If the tubbies get organised, it will be Julie Lee. ****ing stupidity. Give me me Bridgy McBridgeface any day.
Why pick out Julia Lee? I'm sure they'll never heard of Mary Murdoch, Thomas Ransom or Lil Bolocca either.
Because Mary Murdoch was a leading local woman in the suffraget movement and founder of the Hull Branch, Thomas Ransom was a WW2 hero and the relative of one of the pupils and had recently died and Lil Bolocca has been all over the local news lately, everyone who didn't know who she was at the time will do now. But a RL referee ? How many Super League games did she referee ? Does anyone know ? Why not Flo Bilton from Hull who was a leading light in the formation of Womans Football ( which is bigger then RL) in this country ?

Indeed, why not Flo Bilton? My point, which you've either missed or ignored, was that of all those candidates who the pupils would never have heard of you singled out Julia Lee. Because she's to do with RL. Which you dislike intensely.
Maybe because while Julie Lee sounds like a great woman, her achievement of refereeing a sports game is not even close to the same level of achievement as the others and indeed seems out of place in the company of the other four.
Big picture time. The council or the teachers are pumping the kids full of propaganda and approved role models. Karen Briggs? Nah, we need more RL, eh Pete Allen? .
It's debatable of cours They are all worthy role models for what they've achieved. It's unfair to compare say being a suffragette with being a WWII hero, they've achieved what they have in the times they've lived in.
Cafe Gelato have opened a store in the city centre two stores down from Home Bargains opposite Prospect Centre. They had a pop-up stall in St Stephens a while back.
A new bar is to open - in April - on King Edward Street where the opticians was (and where Pret A Manger was going to open but didn’t) called Ponto Lounge and it will create 25 jobs.
