If he goes, I hope he is replaced by someone with more pace and power, with an engine to match that of JWP. JWP would be a shoo in for the Captain’s armband, I would guess.
Loads of articles about him going to Spurs again for £35m, for that fee I would ship him out tomorrow
I personally would feel as devastated by the loss of PEH as I was when Morgan went. We must find a way to stop the drain of talent from our club.
You can’t stop players leaving when other bigger clubs are prepared to pay double what we pay, as we have found out to our cost over the years but really don’t think we woul£ have much difficulty replacing PEH
It's great how things have turned round for JWP. Our darling for some time, but then seemed to lose his way. Shows how much the style of play and the manager can influence a player's form.
I think you're right JWP has found his niche. I was one of those who had doubts about his worth to the team but now he's found a role that he is very good at and improves the team when he plays. I think his best role is more defensive with Armstrong being the better attacking player, it's a good balance now and we look and play better for it.
I actually think JWP has been (mostly) very good for at least the last 3 years or so. He was excellent under Hughes and one of the ones to pull us out of the mire, until Hughes decided he didn't like him and dropped him? My memory is a bit ropey here, they had a bust up didn't they? Anyway Hughes left thankfully and Ralph came in and brought JWP back in to the side and he was excellent once again, and one of our best players under Ralph last season. And then this season we had that weird 3 or 4 months at the start of the season where there was a dark cloud over us and everyone was lacklustre and crap, including Ralph and JWP. But since then, hes been back to being one of our best players again. I've long been an advocate of JWP, from way back when people said he was only useful for his set pieces.
https://readsouthampton.com/2020/03/02/hojbjerg-turns-down-contract-offer-from-southampton/ Pierre said to have turned down an extension at Saints. Shame if true...but not catastrophic.
Shame but he has been the main stay of a low to middling midfield for three years now and if Spurs want to pay the reported £35m for him then "Goodbye" as that is one hell of a fee for him and he is easily replaceable with that sort of figure in the bank
Have felt the writing has been on the wall for a while now with Hojbjerg, just felt that if he was going to sign a new deal we would've sorted it in the summer. As an estimate I'd say we will probably get around £15m for him due to only having a year left, we could end up keeping him for the season if there isn't any interest or he isn't interested in the clubs.
Watching that in super slo-mo, did Kelv actually prevent a goal there? He tipped the first one on to the top of the bar, but it kind of looked like it was hitting the bar anyway (maybe lower part), then there is a clear cross-bar, and then the final shot actually looks to have come of the back of a Leeds player's calf, or been some sort of mis-hit shot. Haha. I'm probably wrong of course, but would be quite funny.
