It is scaremongering if you look at the population of wuhan 11m of something and majority of cases there.

It's more likely you wont catch it by statistics alone

5 Serie A games suspended today.
Italy are trying to contain the spread of Covid-19 but is this too little too late?
    Confirmed cases: 888
    Deaths: 21

That's a 2.3% death rate, I wonder what the death rate in Italy is from flu.

As it stands. Nobody knows the exact mortality rate as the virus has not yet peaked.

I know but even at this early stage that is not an insignificant number if the infection becomes widespread before an effective vaccination becomes available.

According to Bloomberg the latest numbers are 83,000 infected globally with 2,800 deaths from the virus, these figures were for Thursday gone 27th Feb.
That is a rate of 3.3%.

France bans all public gatherings of 5000 or more. Sporting events could be hit. Sky news.

I reckon Iran is being rather economic with their figures, likewise North Korea. North korea is stuck between the two biggest outbreaks, yet claiming very few cases.

Compared to flu's death rate of around 0.1% that's a huge difference.

Well I reckon that very soon they will be banning crowds from attending Sporting Events.

And maybe after the outcome of Boris's Cobra meeting on monday there will be widespread panic buying

I have been out today and purchased a 16 pa of bog rolls from Aldi for the stockcupboard

The overall infection rate and related death rate figures are difficult to gauge given that even for normal flu the vast majority of people will not even call or visit a doctor and the cause of death are usually recorded as pneumonia, heart attack rather than flu. The UK "super spreader" Steve Walsh did not show any symptoms when testing positive and had already passed it on to 11 other people.
Coronavirus seems to be a bit ageist. For anyone over 50, you have been warned :emoticon-0104-surpr

Me dad wouldn't stand a chance as apparently it attacks the lungs first causing shortness of breath.

He's 76 and has emphysema and TB strain. :(
It's not stopping him going the pub though :)

At last someone getting down to the nitty gritty, bog rolls.
Have to say tho Jack even though I like Aldi their bog rolls aren't in the same league as Asda's own brand, much nicer on the bum.

Went in Aldi today as i went to a shop near it,
I stopped buying wine there a while back as i found one nicer in lidl and slightly cheaper plus lidl is nearer to me.
As i was there i decided to just pick up a bottle.
Fecking thing gone up to £5.07 a bottle.
Shove it up their hoop now like the bog roll.

This Swiss League has been postponed for 3 weeks. I don't think it'll be long before others follow suit, I'm surprised Italy haven't done so already.

Comparing it to the flu doesn't really put this thing into perspective. The mortality rate is between 20 and 50 times higher based on the current information and so far there are over 90,000 cases in 3 months. This is a major pandemic.

I don't know if my knowledge on historic things such as this is just lacking but it seems like we're having an increasing number of deadly viruses in the last decade. From Sars, Bird Flu, Ebola, Zika and now this, I wonder if we've caused this in some way.
