It was bound to happen. A couple of weeks ago we had a briefing about the likelihood of being infected - small. Yesterday we had a briefing about not coming into work if we felt under the weather - it's best to stay at home just in case. One person could do the dour brave thing and come into work, like dour brave people do, and infect enough people to have everyone infected within a day or two.

That's a good point Libbs there'll be no sympathy from hardnosed employers. social services cut to the bone won't be able to cope with the the changes in benefits. Universal discredit a joke.

Paying sick pay from day one, is a start, but a full time worker, on the living wage, doing the “right thing” will lose almost £300 per week, whilst self isolating.
That is a lot of money to lose, especially for those just about managing.
Greggs have committed to paying their staff full contract hours, should they need to self isolate.
Can other big companies not do the same?
If not, could the government underwrite the cost?
I know some people would abuse it, and take an unofficial two week break, on full pay, but I don’t think we will be able to control, or slow the spread of the virus if low paid/just about managing workers are more concerned about losing their home/not being able to buy food/pay for utilities etc.

I hear what you say, but put simply, the cost could be greater if people don't stay at home.

Mind you, it hasn't come to that yet - nowhere near for the vast majority.

Taking a calm approach is the key. No need for overreaction it's not the British way.

Apparently many people will catch it and have few or no symptoms...these people will then spread it. I never get bad colds or catch flu (even before flu jabs), but sometimes have a very minor sore throat or feel unwell for a few hours...I suspect that is when I have been exposed to a cold and my T-cells have knocked it for six. People with strong immune systems may end up being the coronavirus version of Typhoid Mary. The truth is that there is a lot still to be learned about Covid-19.

Jeez, you would think 80% of people who get Coronavirus die the way some people are acting. The flu kills more people percentage wise.
