I had high hopes for this kid, his career seems to have hit a standstill though. Hopefully this move will allow him to find the potential he showed 2 years ago. https://www.safc.com/news/academy-news/2020/march/mumba-joins-south-shields
I read a report a few months ago suggesting that none of our coaches can suss out what his best position is anymore. He was originally thought of as being a box to box CM, but hes been playing as a Right back this season.
There is no way the lad is a right back, I'd rather he went to shields and played midfield than get spanked in our u23 out of position. Good luck to him
For me his problem is that he's a natural for playing centrally behind the striker but he doesn't have the experience. He's not strong enough to play centre mid or quick enough to play wide ..,. ... for both of those reasons he's never a full back.
quite a lot of our younguns going out on loan to northern leage clubs. went to watch RCA play at Shildon a few weeks back, both Ryan Leonard and Connor Slack played for RCA, good experience and match fitness. we should encourage it. ( they can be recalled to play for any safc games)
Southend loan out some of their young prospects to some of the non-league sides I go and watch down here. The physicality of it probably does them good.
What worries me is no one seems to know his best position. It a good he is learning multiple roles but at some point we / him has to pick a position
I thinks he will go there to play CM In my opinion the move is about building up his strength and stamina by playing regular football. it will be interesting to see how the move develops for both clubs
His problem is that he doesn't appear to be much good. Shields will be his last chance. Fail there and he's done.
Looked good to me in the glimpses we've seen. Certainly plenty potential there. Disappointed he wasn't given more first team exposure.
I played against Bali last summer and I can remember coming on here telling everybody that the guy wasn’t even close to being ready for our first team. The writing looks to be on the wall for him, now.
I had great hopes for this lad and still do, not his fault that the Academy seems not to know what its doing. Lets hope he does well and eventually, if given a fair chance, proves his doubters wrong.
It doesn't bode well for our attempts to keep young talent though. I think it's safe to say that this lad was the best 15 year old prospect we've had in years... All of those other lads who left for Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool etc. might be playing at a youth level but I can guarantee they're not jealous of Mumba playing for South Shields. We need to get youngsters into our first team, it's appalling that this lads career has been allowed to stagnate like this.
He scored the winner for them last night. https://www.shieldsgazette.com/spor...south-shields-maintain-promotion-push-2446142
He scored again yesterday in a 5-3 win against the team second in the league (FC United of Manchester). https://the72.co.uk/159011/sunderla...r-south-shields-in-top-of-the-table-thriller/ That's now 2 in 2!
