No, sadly. Eze, Bright and Manning are in their final year should they stay beyond the summer. We simply can’t afford to keep them and lose them on a free for the gamble of having a go at promotion. In fact it would be irresponsible to keep them if they can’t be signed up for longer.
We've already exercised the year extension options on the Manning and BOS contracts, so they could very easily go for nothing anyway. Eze has a longer contract, so no immediate need to sell him. With some judicious additions, we could be strong promotion candidates next year. Why not go for it?
Because we can’t afford to. Simple as that. We’ve exercised the option on Bright and Manning so we get a fee for them this summer.
Roller's FFP analysis suggested that we could afford to spend money next season. Why not just not sell instead?
When will we ever be able to afford it again? I thought the point of the austerity was to get us to a place where we can spend (wisely!) again!
Eze, Bright and Manning should be £40m if not more even for us. No way we’d be looking to spend any serious fraction of that. It could be a long time before we have players of such a calibre again and without player sales we’ll make unsustainable losses. It’s **** but we have to get rid and re-invest some of it into players we can buy low and sell high again.
Isn't that the point, though? We are blessed to have these players right now. We could capitalise in cash, or take a chance that might not present itself again for a while and have a go at getting promoted, all within FFP constrictions. These owners have already spunked fortunes on the club, they're not looking to get it back through selling.
No new training ground, no new stadium, treading water every season. Surely our owners who enjoy success in life must have more ambition than that.
He'd be a good replacement for Zaha if Palace decide to sell him again, he'd get regular playing time there, with the potential for a top six move if he reaches the levels we expect him to (a good sell-on clause is a must IMO). I like Hodgson as a manager too, I think he would be good for Ezes development. There's no way we can afford to keep hold of him, or any of our other "stars", come the summer but we mustn't be forced to sell cheap either
I think I said it before, but this kid could play in any league in the world. His awareness of space, his body movement and his talent just gives him those seconds before anyone catches up. Superb player, one that I will always admire and be thankful that we gave him the opportunity to showcase his ability.
We can't gamble with our assets. Gamble and fail and we're back to square one again. Develop, sell, making profit, re-invest, develop, sell, making profit, re-invest........ I know it feel like ****, but we need to start acting like a proper well functioning club. If we do we will command even higher fees in the future. And we will create new Eze's and BOS' believe me. We have to be patient, play the long game. It will come good, and it will feel much better for it. Stick with Warburton through tough the patches, keep the development staff and invest in better facilities. It's the only way forward. I hope we never need to bring the buckets back. Please please believe in the foundations that are finally in place after years of mis-management.
I'd love you to be right, but sadly I'm not sure your reading of Roller's piece is on the nose. We lost £10m last year, despite still benefiting from parachute payments we won't be recieving from now on. As such, unless we can start selling assets our losses will start going upwards again - even if we reduce spending a little. For the moment we can scrape by within FFP as long as rich benefactors cover our losses. That doesn't give us loads of wiggle room to spend (on big new contracts for current players or for new players) and certainly isn't sustainable in the medium term. I don't want QPR to be dependent on the whim of a rich man if possible.
Great result, hats off to the team & management for reaching the 50 point mark which considering the number of changes we made in the summer is a real achievement & better than I had hoped for & done with some real flair so big to all involved.
I'm loving some of the football this season....but fearing I need to enjoy it while I can. Unless the owners are prepared to keep pumping money in the club will simply have to sell players over the summer. And it won't be those that we might raise a million for The sad reality is that a club like ours can't afford another big money gamble. We have a modest fan base and old / non existent facilities for both fans and players, with investment urgently required I'd love to be in Brentford's position now - new stadium, great team and a sustainable business model But let's enjoy the balance of the season first! The win yesterday was special. I always seem to pick the wrong games to take my nephew along to and I feared the worst at 1-0. Preston had clearly targeted our left and Manning / Pugh were torn apart time after time. But the team dug in and what a second half transformation. Amazing how many Preston fans left at 1-2! Even better that all 3 of our goals were scored at our end
Great result! We needed only ten men to do it at the end.... Preston are not a pushovers and are still very much in the competition of play offs. I was sure, that we would get relegated after we have to gave wells away...and losed few matches after that..How wrong was i? Great ! I love when QPR suprised me positively..
