I feel like we're in the minority looking around the various forums and Twitter. I'd rather be in league 2 than have a red bull takeover.
What would be your objection? Is it that we would end up as RB Southampton or RB Saints or is there more to it?
I doubt that would happen tbh as there's FA regulations against it but I wouldn't be happy about the kit and badge being changed for advertising purposes. I support a football club, not just another advertising tool for a huge multinational company.
I'm on the fence. Would I rather RB Southampton FC win the Champions' League or Southampton FC win League One?
No, I wouldn't be happy about the kit (I'm a r&w stripes man) or the badge either but as for being an advertising tool, well, football sold it's soul years ago.
Regarding the Red Bull discussion - surely it depends on what was changed. If they kept the R&W stripes the same but integrated their logo on then who cares? No different to Virgin Media or LD Sports. Wouldn't like the club name change particularly but wouldn't care if we played at the St Marys Red Bull Stadium as we would all just call it St Marys! Anyway, there are no rumours of this so lets not worry
Definitely good news/bad news. Good news: we might be rid of Gao. Bad news: this is likely occurring because Gao's brilliant financial plan has been anything but, and we're in a bit of bother unless someone comes in. Thank goodness for that spell of good results to take us clear of the relegation zone, because we simply cannot afford a year or more in the Championship.
I don't think Gao's financial troubles are entirely, or evenly predominantly, Saints related though, are they? Whether he intended to use us to get his money out of China, or he planned to invest in us as a a long term project, it seems that problems closer to home (for him) meant he couldn't do either.
His business was in a tailspin (at least from the standpoint of share price) before he even bought Saints. Really ought to have been something of a red flag: by the time he purchased the club, as best I can tell he was an ex-billlionaire, and not trending in the right direction.
Yeah, as I recall, the warning lights were flashing, but someone in authority decided Gao was a Fit and Proper Person.
