For the first time in years I can see us getting to the Prem (I cringed as I typed that, talk about tempting fate).

I usually don’t watch Prem league teams play but I’m watching Burnley v Spurs on Sky. They really are not very good. And they are currently 8th and 10th.

what do people think? I suspect our current team would be more than a match for them in general play. I think we might lose due to them having better chance taking and probably some of our players who look good in the championship would be found wanting against players with more skill man for man. But I can’t see these teams teaching us many lessons.

The current squad would probably survive in the PL if Bielsa stays and keeps them playing at current levels. They would be comfortable in mid table I would imagine.

Now, if we could add a couple of goalscorers to that front 3. Like 15-20 goal a season players and probably another centre half and a keeper (Meslier will do, just not Casilla) i reckon we could be pushing past where Sheff Utd have got and possibly top 4. I realise getting those players is easily said than done.

We can't rely on Cooper, Bamford and Casilla at that level. We can't afford to not score from chances either. See the Arsenal game as an example of what we are up against. They are also a mid table team and once they went man for man in the 2nd half they just had superior players and forced us backwards. That would happen regularly with the current squad.

... we have to get there first :emoticon-0148-yes:

Made a similar assessment to emu in a thread recently...

We were better than the blunts last season, but started conceding soft goals and missing chances. They play most of that team currently in the premier league. Difference is our high press that serves us so well, can get undone more easily by the quality individuals you get in the Prem. But I think this side as is could make mid table

add a striker, 10, additional winger some midfield competition/cover ... and replacements for white if we can’t keep him and casilla - and I think we’d be ‘chasing pack’.

<yikes>You lads do realise that if we lose our remaining games we can still miss out on promotion by 20 points

    Give over... it's all hypothetical!

West Brom would go straight back down as they are. They would need a lot of luck with the current squad to survive.

Brentford would stand half a chance as they can score enough goals to get them points. I'd fancy them to survive.

Fulham would be straight back down like last season. They have the best squad in the Championship but a poor manager. They'd need a new manager to stay up.

Forest wouldn't win a game. Genuinely.

Preston might actually scrape enough points to survive as they are weirdly. They have good energy and when they are good they are very good. Very efficient, solid team. They'd get a few drubbings but they'd also have their good days. Not sure if they would have enough good days.

Bristol City wouldn't survive. They lack quality throughout.

Millwall are actually doing well this season. Punching above their weight. However, can you imagine that squad in the PL?

Swansea are a better version of Forest. They'd still drop back down.

    purely hypothetical Eire, purely hypothetical.

Seriously, no chickens counted here. Next two games are at Cardiff... not a happy hunting ground... and the big game home to Fulham. Come through them unscathed and it’s looking good. But if they go wrong, well the table could look very different.

Exactly. I don’t expect it but two defeats and we’re back only one ahead. But like I said, I don’t expect it

Afternoon all. Looking at the remaining fixtures I think in our three home games against Luton, Barnsley and Charlton we should be looking for 9 points, that would put us on 80. I think 84 will be enough for autos so just four points from the other six games.
Fulham are on 64 but behind them on 60 points would mean winning 8 from 9 and having a better goal difference than us. Even Fulham would need to win 7.
I only see Brentford having any kind of chance. I can see them beating both Fulham and West Brom.
I think they could even pass both of them for autos. The other key is that they're all playing each other.
What could possibly go wrong :)
