You could say we got value out of Hernandez, Mason we were unlucky he got a career ending injury ( may have got some insurance payout ) I will give you Henriksen but I can't remember who signed him, wasn't Bruce?

We weren't talking about Bruce we were talking about where the money went over the last 5 years and I highlighted some of the losses we made on players

You're obviously in denial - I'd go and look at your scrapbook and thumb through the Bruce and Meyler section , I'm sure it's well worn , hopefully you can still manage to pull apart the sticky pages

We got £1m in compo for Mason and technically, we didn't have a manager when we signed Henriksen, he was signed in the August and Phelan was appointed in the October. .

Losses we made on individual players are irrelevant with regard to overall club losses, as on overall player trading we didn't make losses, we made significant gains.

But why did we sell them and did we get a good deal?

That's a completely different issue to the one being discussed, but we sold most of them because we got relegated and most of them were good deals, some brilliant deals (like Clucas), some undersold (Robertson), but overall our player trading has been good (this applies only to players signed under Bruce, we've not made a profit on any player signed since he left).

    And overall?

As we have now slipped far away from the riches of the Premier league, we have to rely on transfer income to balance the books. If we remain in the Championship and turn up a Maguire, Robertson or Bowen every now and then it should be possible to remain solvent, the down side is that the Allams won't be leaving any time soon. Should we get relegated then the players we bring in will be even cheaper than those we're bringing in now and if one should turn out to be a gem we will be selling to Championship clubs not the mega rich Premier League clubs.

Just because we made a profit doesn't mean our player trading has been good.

Ehab seems to have this idea in his head that we can just bring through players and sell them on at a profit - he appears to have missed two clear flaws in his plan:

    1. We haven't sold anybody for a profit that was signed since Steve Bruce left - so what makes him think it will suddenly work now?
    &
    2. Ajax do it well, Brentford do it well... when selling their star players, both of these clubs sustain a good enough team to retain balance, team spirit and a squad capable of success, allowing potential stars to shine, which in turn brings in big bids - how do they do this?! They don't sell off everything that isn't nailed down all in one go and build a new team every single summer!

Ajax: sold De Ligt for £80m and De Jong for £68m - they retained the likes of Van De Beek, Neres, Tagliafico and Ziyech and added to the squad in the form of £15m Promes, £14m Alvarez, £11m Marin, £6m Martinez and £4.5m Pierie. They've made huge profits on players, retained a squad to compete and brought in players they see developing for the future.

Ehab's version is to get rejects from Bolton and Barnsley for absolute pennies and hope they come good to sell on, while everyone else around them leaves the club as they don't want to renew, because they're caught in the absolute sh*tshow he's created.

Ajax will sell the likes of Ziyech and Van De Beek in the summer for big money, and they will use some of that to buy 'the next Van De Beek' and 'the next Ziyech' as well as promoting for an excellent academy. The fees they use to buy their replacements won't be freebies and rejects from the division below.

Same can be applied for Brentford: Sold a number of players for a total of £37m, and replaced those players (and more for the squad), by spending £28m.
I bet not many people realise Brentford spent £28 million in the summer - retained most of their other best players, added to them and made a £9million profit.
Funny how they didn't sell £37m worth of talent and replace them with frees, loanees and rejects and expect it to not effect the team.

What do you mean? We’ve got quality like Josh ‘barn door’ Magennis, Marcus ‘In the pub’ Maddison and other equally non robust national league quality larkers. Not to mention our porous defence and blunt attack under Terry ****wit.

    What could possibly go wrong?
