Was it you who put up Lastofthecosmics a couple of times? Runs today in the 2:35 Sedgefield, Hughes up, today could be the day, short price though at 7/2

    ok here we go then.
well normally I tend to go for a few favourites but I'm quite happy to take most of them on today.

1.30pm - FIDDLERONTHEROOF EW I have been keen on this horse since I saw him win at Sandown in December.
He followed up with an equally impressive win in the Tolworth. No doubt some irish horse will get up the hill a bit quicker, but I think he is a great each way bet.

2.10pm - BREWIN'UPASTORM - Good festival form, will be fresh for this, likes the ground, Richard Johnson on board
Notebook is clearly the main danger. Rouge Vif could be a good ew bet.

2.50pm - DISCORAMA (good festival form) and WHO DARES WINS (good recent form) will be my main two picks.
The ground will suit Cepage who could go well at a big price. The favourite will also take a lot of beating.

3.30pm EPATANTE could be a very good horse and the money appears to be coming for him.
BALLYANDY ew at a big price could go close

    4.10pm BENIE I think
Lady Buttons has to be worth an ew bet though

4.50pm ESPOIR DE GUYE - when the ground is soft don't bet against a Venetia Williams horse

5.30pm Can't decide between Carefully Selected and Lord du Mesnil. One of them will win.

    Good morning chaps and chapesses
Just a quick point about the comp .... I freely admit I have been a bit swamped by all the Fat Lads entries (only myself to blame) and I may have to draw a line on more entries. Not saying I am, but if you intended to enter, please do it ASAP please!

This Supreme reminds me of the Altior year, Mullins Min split Hendersons Altior and Buveur Dair. That was the best novice hurdle run this century, producing 2 all time greats and 30 odd G1 wins from the field. Highly unlikely this will match up to that but a repeat of the Hendo/Mullins domination looks likely with Shishkin playing Altior, Asterion Forlonge playing Min, and Chantry House playing Buveur Dair.

Chantry House looks a cracking prospect and seriously underrated at 140 considering the laughable 154 attributed to Fiddlerontheroof for beating a 136 mare in the Tolworth in a bog, that has to be the worst G1 run this season and he should be about 20/1 for this. Like BVD, I think Chantry House might just get done by two who are already more of the finished article, but he will go on to be the best hurdler in the field. Shiskin will follow the Altior path to the Arkle and I do think hes a superstar in the making, he made a 140 horse look like a selling plater last time and nothing has been able to lay a glove on him in his completed races. The vibes have always been very strong about him and he has looked top class all the way.

Last year, I made a profit on the opening day of Cheltenham, so since lightning does not strike twice here is what to avoid today:

    1:30 Chantry House
I know, the opener usually goes to some Irish hotpot but this one from the Lieutenant’s barn is owned by JP McManus and has done nothing wrong to date albeit against moderate rivals on better ground.

    2:10 Notebook
He has already beaten several of these and it looks like his jumping is good enough for these obstacles, so Rachael Blackmore can open her account for the week. Her knowledge of the horse may be key here as I expect that the old rivals will change tactics to reverse previous form.

    2:50 Vinndication
Clearly was well regarded judging by the money that was shovelled on first time up, so can he give weight away all round? Has not run since November but seems to go well fresh. ITV’s The Insider tipping Atlanta Ablaze each-way after its no-show last time must think punters are right mugs. No pro would back such a Jekyll and Hyde performer.

    3:30 Epatante
The mare’s allowance is the critical factor here. The 7lb she gets from the boys makes her the best on the ratings. The main concerns are that she bombed on her only previous visit last year and the negative vibes coming out of the yard in the last week.

    4:10 Honeysuckle
She clearly has to step up to beat the hotpot but she has done nothing wrong and has a sporting chance, if the favourite fluffs her lines, of giving Rachael Blackmore another winner.

    4:50 Espoir De Guye
Has shown consistent form and comes in here with every chance in an open looking heat if he can find a stone of improvement after winning easily at Ascot. The trip and the ground are both in his favour.

    5:30 Lord Du Mesnil
Another one that has been a model of consistency, not out of the first two in his last six; however, this may be a difficult one for a front runner as there are others that like to be up front. His only previous visit here was over hurdles but the stiff Haydock fences on his last three starts suggest he will be okay and he stays longer than the mother-in-law.

Most of their entries, Steve, are a direct copy from their own comp, with EW's added in some cases as their comp doesn't allow them. If I could go back 3 days, I would also have disallowed EW's !! But it's too late for that and I'll manage somehow.
This is where I get my excuses in early ......... I got a new laptop at the weekend which is a LOT more responsive to the slightest touch of the keyboard than my old one; I'm also using Microsoft's Excel, which I haven't used since retiring and the newer version is also giving me a steep learning curve (I used Apache's Open Office on the old lappy, which mirrors Excel, with some differences to avoid copyright infingements, and to be fair is a LOT easier to use than Excel!)
May as well get all the excuses in at once - I'm also bog trotting, sniffling and sneezing - makes life a bit tricky at the mo <laugh>
