I can understand why they want to do it, but where do you draw the line? What about the underground that’s used by millions? I can see everywhere being put on lockdown shortly. Personally, I’m more concerned about my holidays getting cancelled than catching it myself. Selfish, I know...... Certainly worrying times.
It's time to postpone all sport and events in my opinion. The reality is they are just trivial when lives are at stake. If UEFA postpone the Euros until next summer, all countries can use this summer to finish their domestic seasons. I don't understand why at the very least, events are not cancelled (which will reduce the effects on public transport) and everyone with the ability to work from home isn't doing so already.
It's pretty easy really. The underground and public transport are essential to helping people to get around and buy food, and a combined effort to avoid unnecessary travel can allow them to stay open. Obviously that in itself is not ideal, but making sure that we limit our journeys is a big part of it. The match, school and even a lot of shops, are simply not 'essential' in that way. We don't need them in the way that we need adequate mass transit.
I have a similar issue Sombrero.... I am due to leave the Middle East and return to the UK permanently in 2 weeks. The way things are going I doubt very much wether I will be flying anywhere and with no visa to stay in the UAE...well....not sure TBH
I'm not sure what the point of suspending until April would be, the virus will still be rampant then. It'll be months before it's 'safe'.
I suppose they're just having another meeting then to discuss it, difficult situation to resolve isn't it. Unprecedented as far as I know.
I don't think it's anything to do with the "spread" of the virus though - Probably more due to the amount of police and ambulance resource which is needed for each match. Just an opinion mind. The decision is contrary to what the government have stated in their brief yesterday - although the football authorities are a lore unto themselves!!
I do think this this Coronvirus is awful. Flu every year is responsible for a number of deaths... so a certain amount of winnowing out has already occurred, so percentage wise the figure is low p.a. Coronvirus is new and will take out a larger percentage of the frail and elderly as nobody has any immunity etc. The aim as far as I can understand it is not to have a peak of cases, so that the NHS has cope with a steady number of cases. A high percentage of people will catch the virus and for the vast majority it will not be too harmful. So yes stopping large gatherings of people does seem a good idea.
Absolutely agree - but the government didn't say that (which is really strange!) I'm no expert mind! But we're in the delay stage seemingly in order, as you say, to slow down the spread and lessen the impact on the NHS. I'm seemingly high risk as a type 1 diabetic! But I'm fit and healthy so am not worried.
Government seem to be passing the buck with piecemeal recommendations, no leadership seems to be working so far, we live in hope.
