Just wonder what everyone's opinions are:

I have read today that karen brady, writing in the sun has stated that she wants the football season to be null and void for this year. Well, I guess that is one way to guarantee your premiership spot!! Jurgen Klopp on the other hand has been more diplomatic in his approach.....personally I would love to see them have the chance to win the title at Anfield. If QPR were in this position I would want this, but at the same time if we were in a relegation battle I would still like to see the season out if only to see my team survive. .

My own opinion is that I think this season should finish - regardless of when. A little while ago the premiership had a "winter break" so a virus break is surely good (not good but in terms of giving players and fans a chance to gain full health) . However, what about other sports and football in lower divisions where games are going ahead? Where is the duty of care? Plus Cheltenham racing? That's gone ahead. I don't think that the press help - in my opinion sometimes scare mongering.

Radio 5 live has just through a huge list of sports going ahead. I can understand if a player has an infection then then whole team should not be playing and I think that the break is sensible

My own role is as a safety professional. Currently I have engineers needing to go abroad to carry out works and I have stopped this from happening due to some places being high risk (Italy and Japan for a start). Some of the work could be classed as critical however as the machinery can be turned off and not used this eliminates the problem. This is a unique situation, I think the league needs to be completed regardless of when.

    Interested to know your thoughts.

It's almost certain the Euros will be put back till next year so if after 2-3 months, which most commentators seem to think is when the situation will be back in control, the season could be completed in June/July. Next season's UEFA competitions couldn't run due to the backlog so that would create room in the calendar for next season to start in September and use the spare dates in the calendar to play the league matches and finish on time, that way it would be much fairer for those clubs that would have been 'robbed' by declaring null and void...

I think Karen Brady is just looking after her own interests seeing as West Ham are in a rather precarious position...….

The obvious thing is to cancel the Euro's to free up the time to finish the League programmes during June and July assuming that countries are in the clear by then, by no means is this guaranteed though. Otherwise play through July and August have a 2 week break and start new season in September, cancel the International Breaks and finish the season on time early May to play the Euros in July 2021...….

Mind as it Leeds who might be "robbed" maybe null and void isn't such a bad idea<laugh>

    Agree Sooper.
I am a volunteer at Euro2020, I think I heard that they will decide next Tuesday.

I think sense will prevail, and they will put it back a year...which has two effects.

    1. It is sensible because Euro2020 is in so many places....all (or nearly all) need to be clear of restrictions for the tournament to progress
    2. It will allow all the leagues affected and the Champions league etc time possibly to sort themselves out in June/July (I assume we will be free of restrictions by then)

It may be necessary to start the 2020/2021 season a few weeks later, and maybe not take the winter break.

I think it would be stupid beyond belief to null and void this season, or even just stop it now. It will make little difference to us....other than financially.. a loss of income from 9 games. Additionally, I am sure they will not do that as the PL/EFL are actually contracted to Sky etc to provide televised matches, and they would have to give money back if they did not play.

I think the Euros will be postponed until next year and that will mean that the remainder of the season can and should be played, even if it means delaying the start of next season. Talk of scrapping this season is bonkers if you ask me, and could result in all kinds of legal challenges from clubs denied promotion or play-off spots. One side-effect of this though, would be complications around moving the transfer window when many players' contracts end in June.

What do you think would be the outcome if the all-clear doesn't come around until the end of August?
From what I have read this is quite probable.

There definitely wouldn't be a Champions League nor Europa League as none of the domestic leagues would have finished to provide qualifiers. That would give the opportunity to complete fixtures and start next season later with spare dates similar to my previous post. It'll be interesting to see what is on the agenda for the Premier League meeting this week, several options will be voted on so we'll have a better idea once that is done...

Agree with most on here that the season should be completed & euro’s put back as you can’t have both going on with quite a few players involved, it’s going to be very messy but got to carry on

How many of the lower league teams will find it difficult to pay their players

I can see, sadly, a few business going bust and people losing everything. The governments could help by freezing taxes and providing "help", whether this in the form of food, water and heat but someone will want to my a buck or two.

What we need is more toilet rolls!
Only joking, Ninj. Banks in Sweden have (with government finance) given companies a six month lenianacy on payments of loans. Hotels, pubs and restuarants are also in line to be helped because nobody is going out or travelling to Sweden.
This mess is going to take a lot of clearing up!

what we need is a bit of common sense. The press aren't helping - just scare mongering (my opinion).
lets hope a cure is found shortly...…..
