I believe it was 1963 and we had bought Don Weston in January from Rotherham for £17kin the January but because of the extreme weather we didn't play until mid March against Stoke who hadn't been beaten all season 'Well Don scored 3 and we won 3-1 but the point I am making is that we lost 11 weeks yet we still ended the season on time so whats all the fuss is about losing a minimum of 3 weeks they will just after play 2 matches a week poor things
because we live in a generation of soft bastards Although in 1963 there wasn't a flu pandemic. But I get your point regarding the build up of matches. IMO and yes it's slanted bias towards Leeds Utd because we are doing so well at the moment, but the season is so far gone at this stage that null and voiding it would lead to so many legal minefields that it would be better to play these games, finish the season(and whose to say we don't still **** it up) but at least that would be that.
Is that the season where with 4 games to go we were joint third with Sunderland, 2 points behind Chelsea (with a game in hand), 3 points behind Stoke, and 6 points ahead of Middlesborough in 5th position, and then proceeded to lose 3 of those 4 games and lost out on promotion by 4 points and even allowed Middlesborough to get 4th place. Weston also scored his hatrick against Stoke in December 1962 (which was his debut) prior to the weather issues. The 3-1 victory in March was also against Stoke, but that was in the delayed FA Cup 3rd round tie, where Collins, Reaney and Hair scored. I also believe that we had already beaten Stoke on the opening day of that season 1-0, Storrie getting the winner
Weston was signed for Leeds United by Don Revie for a fee of £18,000 in December 1962 after the departure of John Charles and scored a hat-trick on his home debut against Stoke City. He made a contribution to Leeds' successful promotion season of 1963–64 but faded from the first team as Alan Peacock and Jim Storrie were favoured for the centre-forward position.
Hughie Baird Shaks was the replacement for Charles he was bought for 18k from Airdrie amd who could replace John
