Even on here boys, we really need to stick together and not raise the temperature. Stainsy you are an absolute hero doing what you are doing, and the front line NHS "troops" are the real heroes here...and boy I wish I could slap so hard all the horders and all the idiots who phone up 999 and say they have a Covid19 because they have a sore throat and are feeling iffy.
But actually, there are so many other heroes out there at the moment. Do your bit...get some shopping for some one who is shut in their house, offer to walk their dog, just everyone do what they can.

He is trying to react to the scientific advice, but the media is stirring things up, so he is seemingly forced into some knee jerk reactions (The virologist-of- note Piers Morgan is possibly the worst offender imho)
Boris screwed up yesterday over the request for no mass or social gatherings, but still left it to the businesses them selves to make the call. I am sure that will be rectified today or tomorrow.
I hope this afternoon that the chancellor sorts out some sort of package for people who are unable to pay their bills, because they have been laid off, self employed, self-isolating.

But the bottom line is this is going to economically affect the country for a generation but if we hanging together and don't panic, most of us will get out the other end of the tunnel, scathed admittedly, but we will get out

 

He was saying last week you couldn't catch Coronavirus on the Underground, the bloke is a weapons-grade muppet...

That’s mad. Venice was a bit grim when I was there a few years back IMO.

Has been very little mention about self employed support except the lower income floor of Universal Credit will be removed. What I dont think people understand(including the muppets in govt who said u can claim Universal Credit)is that it is a means tested benefit so if u have a partner who works full time u will more than likely get sod all. If u live on your own and own your house the maximum u will receive is 317.82pm and if u r lucky enough to be under 25 you will get 251.77 of course if u have any savings over 16k u will automatically get sod all

 

If the government is acting 100% on scientific advice, why was there such a dramatic change of tack yesterday? At the weekend the advice was that non-infected members of a household where there was an infected person should continue to live as normal. Yesterday, this changed to advising all members of such a household to self-isolate for 14 days. It seems Johnson was spooked by media criticism.

 

Just found out someone I know has tested positive, elderly mother of a friend, she was admitted to a normal ward but after testing isolated...

 

Because the scientists themselves worldwide are feeling their way forward, as if they have blindfolds on.

Euro 2020 has been postponed by one year until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, says Uefa.

European football's governing body made the decision during an emergency video conference involving major stakeholders on Tuesday.

The tournament, due to take place from 12 June-12 July this summer, will now run from 11 June to 11 July next year.

The postponement provides a chance for European leagues that have been suspended to now be completed.

Uefa said it wanted to avoid "placing any unnecessary pressure on national public services" of its 12 host countries, as well as helping allow domestic competitions to be finished.

"We are at the helm of a sport that vast numbers of people live and breathe that has been laid low by this invisible and fast-moving opponent," said Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin.

"It is at times like these, that the football community needs to show responsibility, unity, solidarity and altruism.

"The health of fans, staff and players has to be our number one priority and in that spirit, Uefa tabled a range of options so that competitions can finish this season safely and I am proud of the response of my colleagues across European football.

"There was a real spirit of co-operation, with everyone recognising that they had to sacrifice something in order to achieve the best result."

Ceferin said it was important Uefa "led the process and made the biggest sacrifice", adding it comes "at a huge cost" but "purpose over profit has been our guiding principle in taking this decision for the good of European football as a whole".

Euro play-offs moved to June
The European Championship qualifying play-offs, scheduled to begin in March, have provisionally been moved to June.

They include two-legged ties between Scotland and Israel, Northern Ireland and Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Republic of Ireland and Slovakia.

Friendly international matches due to be played this month have also been pushed back until June.

Uefa says a working group will examine calendar solutions that would allow for the completion of the current season and any other consequence of Tuesday's decisions.

Uefa's Nations League and the European Under-21 Championships are scheduled to take place next summer.

The 2021 Uefa Women's European Championship is set to take place in England and begins on 7 July, four days before the proposed men's final.

Elsewhere, the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) says this year's Copa America, due to take place from 12 June to 12 July, has been postponed until 2021.

World governing body Fifa says the newly-expanded Club World Cup, originally scheduled to take place in China in June 2021, will be postponed and a new date announced when "there is more clarity on the situation".

The organisation is also going to donate $10m (£8.3m) to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

 

or the scientific advice has changed. It seems that they did new modelling over the weekend which dramatically worsened the potential outlook. Or both.

Just been shopping, down to M&S on the Parade, where you can’t park so I thought would be decently stocked. Very patchy, lots of empty shelves, including fresh food. A couple of bottle blond middle aged women were loading their trolley with every bit of chicken, fresh and packaged, in the shop. Lots of it. I would have challenged them, but I have, since the end of last year, avoided doing this when I see bad behaviour in public, because I don’t want to get thumped or stabbed and such is the level of bad temper in this country that this is becoming increasingly likely. Admittedly, this pair did not look that threatening, but might well have shouted and screamed and made the shop workers lives difficult, and they don’t deserve that. So I just politely asked if they intended to freeze the chicken, and when they said yes, told them that, as a microbiologist, I would advise against that as it tripled the chances of salmonella and E. coli on defrosting (I think I threw in Legionnaires Disease as well, they didn’t look like they would spot that you get that from air conditioning). I walked on as they fell into panicked discussion. I know you shouldn’t lie, but I feel that my integrity is intact, this was a zen like gesture. When I walked back down that aisle at least some of the chicken had been put back.

What we need the boffins to do now is invent an algorithm which tells us when greedy, selfish ****s have stockpiled to the extent that every nook, cranny and crevice of their homes is engorged like a foie Gras goose’s liver, and the rest of us decent people can get back to shopping for the next couple of days and getting stuff in for our neighbours who may be isolating.
