To be fair unless my mrs drags me in there on the odd occasion I avoid any spoons like the plague, vile places, vile food.
Whenever I pass the local spoons their customer base looks like an identity parade for the next Covid19 fatality.
Essentially the Magic Money Tree which Labour were mocked for promising in 2017 has now grown to infinite proportions under the Conservatives.
While the government are handing out large wads of cash, I was thinking the other day that this may be the moment for a temporary Universal Basic Income to be. raised as an option. Here’s a petition to that end: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petiti...ne?share=a8b08496-a882-4d58-9e74-29a9533047e6
Unfortunately the right wing media will have 3-4 years to re-write history and those same people will vote for them again. Minus those elderly supporters who are being thrown under the bus, as a result of the government not reacting quickly enough. Those poor souls will be dead.
Government reserves are there for using in the case of emergency. I have savings...acceptable for me to spend if there is a crisis....foolish for me to use just to cover over spending. There is no pleasing some people.
These economic measures are an absolute joke in my opinion. Mortgage breaks - so landlords will pocket my rent for 3 months and not pass on the savings. Loans for businesses - useless. Nothing to help those that have been laid off because of this. My girlfriend like many is being asked to take a minimum of 4 weeks unpaid leave (works for BA). Where is the help for us normal people?
No joke, a friend of ours recently left her job to start working for BA start of the year. Shes devastated.
Don’t know if this has been mentioned, but it seems that the government were basing their original decisions on the wrong virus. “The Financial Times has revealed that up until last week, the UK was basing its coronavirus control policy on a model based on hospitalisation rates for ***a different disease*** with lower rates of intensive care need than coronavirus. Rather than on China or South Korea’s rates of infection and hospitalization in response to Covid19. So that explains why the government has suddenly ramped up its approach. So no Laura Kuenssberg, the science didn’t “change”. Our government just corrected their own mistake, one that will inevitably cost lives de to the time lost and substandard preparations already made.”
I'm pretty sure if we hadn't voted for Brexit and Labour had won the last election then this virus wouldn't even exist. Or so you'd be forgiven for believing reading this thread at times.
Maybe as populists they just went with all the public saying its the same as flu and it isn't that bad in the same way they went with people wanting Brexit
Rate of growth in the US has been about 27%/day. So would be approx. 6500 by the end of the weekend, topping 10k in a week. Though that depends on whether it jumps more with increased testing.
Management sent a few people home today. I was speaking to a work colleague who I observed wasn't her usual self. So I had a proper word. Yes, she felt bloody awful, but felt compelled to come to work. I mean WTF?!?!?!?!? What does it take to get through to people who find zero worth in themselves unless they are buried in work? I got her to speak to the boss. Within seconds she was heading home. She'd even protested to stay. She's gone for 14 days. Ridiculously, we'd spoken together only last friday of what we'd do if we were infected. The consensus was to curl up on the sofa watching movies with sufficient red wine about the place. But when push came to shove she decided to infect a few people first. Maybe me. We'll see. Some people... I really don't know what doesn't go through their minds. ****ING WELL STAY HOME.
