Boris has thrown teachers under a bus and as a family with daughters and lots of nieces working in schools as teachers and in other roles we have had to be even more careful about our isolation.
People are conditioned to believe that things can't get *that* bad, that if we just carry on things will be fine in the end. Sadly, that doesn't apply to everything, and with a disease that grows at an exponential rate and is often invisible in some carriers, by the time people recognize that the situation is severe, it'll have spread to most corners of society. The moment when a lot of people finally accept reality will be when someone prominent dies. An athlete, a film star, a politician, someone like that. At that point, there will be far more political will to do something. But it should have been done already; there's no way to avoid massive economic and societal disruption, it's just a question of whether we're making the choices that lead to it, or the choices are being made for us. Italy's efforts have slowed the growth, but the key word there is *slowed*: it's still growing, despite the country being on virtual lockdown, but it's starting to level off. We need to make the choices they have, and immediately, because every day that the rate of growth continues exponentially means several thousand extra cases in ten days.
Just been to dentist...they are expecting to be told to stop fillings and scalings….get in quick before there's a rush on.
I really can’t get my head around what they are trying to do, by keeping schools open. I understand that some grandparents regularly mind their grandchildren, whilst the parents are working, so I understand that the grandchildren, if infected, could pass the virus on. But surely the chance of the grandchildren contracting the virus is greater if they continue socialising, at school, than if they just stay at home or with their grandparents.
It is good news but there's still a long way to go. What they should be looking at now is cancelling anything that includes; Ant & Dec David Walliams Mrs Brown's Boys Miranda The One Show Michael Mcintyre Anything with "celebrity" in the title Strictly Come Dancing Simon Cowell That's just for starters, there's tons more. The government have asked us to self isolate but who will obey that with this as "entertainment". I'd rather take my chances down the pub. If there was anything good to come from this disease it would be not having to suffer this heap of ****.
As of a few days ago schools were still supposed to get OFSTED inspections! Oh, just the most stressful time in the school calendar but get on with it folks, never mind the pandemic!

I haven't checked, mostly because I haven't got SKY, but what are the multitude of SKY (and BT, etc) sports channels showing, now? Re-runs of old football matches? Live coverage of paint drying, with commentary and punditry?
