I’ve been erroneously sent off work to isolate. My son has had a cough for almost 3 weeks (before the advice came in). I’ve had contact with him since 2nd March, last had him yesterday. But my boss said I have to isolate for 2 weeks from today (even though the advice is that it’s from the first date they showed signs). If I have to have 2 weeks of SSP I won’t be able to pay my mortgage, bills and maintenance!

Good old Richard Branson, that poor man, having to live isolated from all this on his own private paradise Necker Island. Asks for 7.5billion as a bail out for virgin airlines after suing the NHS 83mil and then suggests to his employees to take an 8 week non paid sabbatical.

Do not panic. Make a coffee in the morning, then sit with a bit of paper and get contact details for banks & bills. Phone them, and tell then due to CV and isolation you have no money, what can they do to help you. Let them do the talking.

Thanks, I’m hoping work will see sense. It seems even educated professionals are not safe from hysteria.

Hopefully should be codified soon. Here in Canada, with a much lower rate of cases, we've announced major supports for individuals who have to be idled/laid off/need to take sick leave, with more coming. Even the bootstrappy US is doing likewise. I can't imagine, idiotic as BoJo might be, that he'd let the economy crash in an attempt to keep the economy from crashing, which is what will happen if people are forced to work through this yet are unable to work for prolonged spells.

I think you will get help. This impacted too many people. The economy has to freeze and take a back seat, or it will simply collapse!

My best mate works in schools and is now facing potentially six months of closures, I'm sure there are countless others in similar positions.

I'm a bit unsure what's going to happen in my case. I was advised to work from home due to being in a "vulnerable" group according to my employer but until there is a vaccine, logically that situation won't change and could see me effectively isolating from colleagues and friends for the foreseeable future - unless I get the damn virus, get over it and return after the usual quarantine period.
I don't mind working from home, however my actual job role is probably only 50% doable remotely which is fine for a couple of weeks however my employers wouldn't want to have to pay me a full salary for half the work for a protracted period.
I'm hoping that they will consider offering some training to allow me to take on a role that will be fully productive from a remote location...we shall see what develops

Honda shut as of tonight until 6/4/20(maybe longer) not because of the virus but running out of parts because of the disruption of the virus.
Vauxhall,Nissan,Toyota,BMW the same ....some closing for longer.

    Copied from Facebook......

I have corona virus, i want to tell everyone about it because everyone is panicking! Don't! Its the media blowing everything up out of proportion again! I want to explain exactly what the symptoms are, if you remember years ago flu was killing people so they gave flu Jabs to vulnerable people like the disabled and elderly, this virus is not as bad as flu its like hay fever and a bad cold, you cough and have bad flem on your chest, the worst thing about it is the high temperature, my eyes steam and my nose i have a sore throat but its not bad and headache and muscle ache, this virus is getting blown out of proportion and its absurd how people are buying things and the shops are empty! I wouldn't even have called the doctor if i didn't have such a high temperature, there will be millions of people who have this and don't even know about it, because its not as bad as flu and flu still kills more people'! The doctors told me to call 111 then i was accessed over the phone with them and transferred to a nurse who explained what i should do! Which was basically nothing but stay away from everyone and isolate myself, some of you will probably already have it and not even know that's how bad it is, and there's only people dying of it who are already sick or elderly and would die with a bad cold anyway which this isn't even a bad cold! This is my second day now and i feel tired but my symptoms aren't like yesterday, so please don't be panicking and listening to bloody media ok my son and his wife were with me yesterday and they had the symptoms last night so it spreads very very fast, i have chronic lung disease thrombosis psyaticah ptsd and other serious disabilities and my breathing was greatly affected by the virus but i have had much worse symptoms with flu, i don't go out anyway and haven't been out for a few weeks the only place i went 3 days ago where i must have caught the virus was when i went shopping in asda! But like I've said this virus spreads very very fast!

Hits fast doesn't it, when just in time becomes just too late or not at all. It's going to be chaos for the next 12 months across the whole of manufacturing and retail.
Good job Brexit isn't happening at the same time

IMO this will take a very long time to recover from....could be 6,12,18 months yet before we can consider recovery.......but in the flip side with the lockdowns etc surly the December 31st has to be extended......no way trade deals will be done now.

Same. Worked 100% from home since early 2017. Never even met my boss or any of my co-workers. Love it!

    O
Pfeffel says not. Some things are just too important. Brexit will complete the perfect storm. My brother, an ardent Brexiteer has his pension invested in the stock exchange. I told him to cash out a fortnight ago, since then he has lost 40% of his capital. Sister inLaw ( equally Brexity) us going mental.
