wWe often talk of old players here, Some which were heroes, others who did not impress so much, but still had their hearts deeply imbedded in the club. ........ Some of these players were given a bit of a hard time by some of the Swans supporters every time they made a slight mistake. Taylor, playing for Aston Villa an example. ...... one of those players was Darvel Williams. (Not quite sure of the name Darvel). Everybody called him. DAVOO ........ Some of the supporters gave him a hard time when playing home, but when playing away He often gave a star performance, And at one time Newcastle who at that time were a top team. wanted to sign him. I often wondered why it did not go through. I think he finished his career playing for the Swans, whether he was injured . .? ........ Saw him several times after that in Gorseinon, always with a smile on his face, and polite to everybody, would have a chat with anybody. ............ Have not seen him for a long time now, the last time he had a severe limp, and walked with a crutch, or stick.. Do any of you older guys remember him.? He seemed a hell of a nice guy. ...... Do you remember his name? DAVOO! DAVOO .
Victor did you mean old or ancient ? the player you're referring to was Darvel Williams and as you say star man , long before my time and i suspect for many on here please log in to view this image
You cheeky bloody sods ..... all of you, You have put me in a bad mood again, you wait my turn will come. Question, ......... Has there a Rugby union international ever been played at the Vetch ?
Definitely been a rugby league international or two at the vetch as the WRU would not allow the northern sport to be played at a hallowed union site. Great nights and atmospheres when Jonathan Davies was at his peak....
I wait with bated breath so do your worse A few rugby leagues games definitely but the union code I'm not so sure , perhaps during the war years ?
Welsh Miners. played an international game against the English Miners. ...... can't give you the date, I think that was the only time the fixture was played. Another fixture that had a short life was. The Welsh Referees. Verses The French Referees. .... I played in this game in Cardiff, I think we won 9 - 3. ...... Once was enough, the French were bloody filthy, they scratched, kicked , and even resorted to biting., and they were bloody Referees. ...... I can't remember if there was a game played in France, ......... but I was not bloody playing. !
It was too bloody real as far as I was concerned, ..... All in wrestling, fighting , biting, crotch grabbing, you name it, and nobody got sent off . Not a real international ? .... It was practically international warefare.
yes what a ‘full on game’ that all blacks game in 1989 was! I remember there was a fantastic atmosphere in the ground.
Any of you guys remember Wilson Lauder, and Dai Morris playing wing forwards for Neath? Now that was a pair to be respected both on and off the field.
