John Shuttleworth [Graham Fellowes] singing the delightful Hey, Have You Seen My Wife: "I asked at the butchers.., the bakers... Not the candlestick makers, because they don't have them anymore"
Been watching/listening to a conversation involving Ann Druyan, who was the producer of the science series Cosmos. Her husband was Carl Sagan, who will be known to a few [look him up if you don't]. Inevitably. I thought of Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, or Vangelis, as we know him, and all that music that enveloped Cosmos the series. So here's the theme tune: By the way, Vangelis has been diagnosed with Covid-19. Bummer.
I have been listening to Maria Schneider's recording of "The Thompson Fields" which is absolutely incredible. I love her music but her records are only available through Artist Share which is effectively a crowd funding site. The CD comes enclosed in a hardback booklet with illustrations of birds and photos of the landscape which inspired the music,. I think this is her best disc so far.
A friend of mine died a couple of weeks back. The intention had been to get him back to Dublin where his family could hold a funeral. COVD-19 has scuppered that. One of the many things we had in common was a love of poetry and the music of The Doors. There is a psychological idea that we can't summon up the face of a loved one because we think of them as emotions. Jim Morrison got psychology and clearly knew this when he wrote: Cheers Jim. This one's for Mack
Probably the first PMJ track I heard, and worth plenty of repeating. In these days of confusion, just wallow in their brilliant musicianship and overall gorgeousness:
Great track, but there was no Cream without Jack Bruce Clapton is top drawer as a blues guitarist, no doubt, but somewhere near the relegation zone when it comes to song writing. With Cream they had Jack.
Right on both counts, unfortunately when Clapton moved away from rock he was pretty crap. He also wasted his talents with addictions etc and cuts a sad figure in my eyes. Peter Green should have been right up there as the best of all time. As you say, such a waste.
