Well that's the first big shutdown cancelled in the offshore industry. Total have cancelled there 6 month shutdown on Elgin platform, about 400 or 500 lads out of work unfortunately.

It's blatantly lockdown. Not surprising when you see the way people are acting.

However since the family moved on we don’t have a big freezer
Nevertheless we have what will last us a short while
    We can always eat bread

I honestly think he'll bottle a full lockdown, but hope I'm wrong.

Bit of a Chamberlain moment this. He's avoided it because he wants to be Churchill I think.

So, what counts as ‘essential work’.

The rest all makes sense but that is vague as ****.

    No Choice now
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-52000039

Here are the major points of his speech:
    • From tonight, people in Britain will be allowed to leave their homes for only “very limited purposes” - shopping for basic necessities; for one form of exercise a day; for any medical need; and to travel to and from work when “absolutely necessary”
    • People are warned not to meet friends or family members who they do not live with
    • Shopping is only permitted for essentials like food and medicine, and people are advised to do it “as little as you can”
    • Police have powers to enforce the rules, including through fines and dispersing gatherings
    • All shops selling non-essential goods, such as clothing and electronic stores, are ordered to close
    • Libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and places of worship are to close
    • All gatherings of more than two people in public - excluding people you live with - are banned
    • All social events, including weddings and baptisms are banned
    • Funerals are not included in the new restrictions
    • Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed
    • Restrictions “under constant review” and will be checked again in three weeks. They will be relaxed “if the evidence shows we are able to”

    STAY AT HOME

Just out of curiosity are they closing the golf courses?

The reason i ask is that ours are still staying open with special rules/measures put in place. I tried not to laugh when reading the email i received saying "be careful when handling other players balls"

He had no option but to do this imo, far too many folk wandering about over the weekend. Glad he made clear that it's about stopping the health service being overwhelmed as that message needs hammering into some folks heads. Stay safe everyone.

I suppose golf is a form of exercise...

From tonight, people will be allowed to leave their homes for:
    • shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
    • one form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle, alone or with members of their household;
    • any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person;
    • travelling to and from work, but only where it is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home

That's how i read it as well. here's the email i received from our club...

    "1. Upcoming Competitions
    a. The Government has not banned outdoor sporting activities at this stage. Golf Australia has advised us that they are seeking clarification from the Federal Government so we will continue with competitions until further notice.
    b. For the foreseeable future we will not conducting major trophy events, such as the Clarrie Eatts Foursome event which is scheduled for this weekend. We will run a normal Par event for all players.
    c. The Denis Kelly Ambrose and the club championships scheduled for April will also
    d. We will notify members when this event will be played and will notify members of the postponement of other major events in subsequent emails.
    e. Southern District Golf has notified the club that all tournaments will be cancelled, including Women’s Pennant currently in progress, Men’s Pennant and Junior events which come under the auspices of the Southern District.

    2. Playing conditions
    3. The R&A has announced a series of temporary measures that will enable clubs to remove any hygiene implications related to complying with the Rules of Golf. These temporary measures are effective immediately and allow the Rules of Golf, and Model Local Rules, to be modified as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak. The club has adopted the following modifications
    a. Scorecards
    i. Players may enter their own hole scores on the scorecard (it is not necessary for a marker to do it). It is not necessary to have a marker physically certify the player’s hole scores, but some form of verbal certification should take place.
ii. All scorecards are to be placed in the designated box outside the Pro Shop and they will be entered into the system under controlled conditions by a committee member.
    b. Flagsticks and handling other players balls
    i. Players are requested to leave the flagstick in the hole at all times. If you do remove the flagstick ensure you do it with a gloved hand.
ii. Do not handle other players’ ball and you should also use a gloved hand to remove the ball from the hole.
    c. General
    i. By its nature, golf promotes a level of social distancing and while it is important that this is adhered to, golf is a lower risk sport than many others.
ii. Leave a suitable distance between your group and the group in front of you.
iii. Do not crowd the Pro Shop which has imposed a limit of 5 persons in the shop at any one time.
iv. Use a card to pay for items purchased to avoid cash handling.
    v. As per the government regulations the restaurant and bar will be closed until further notice. There will be access to take-away food and drink through the hatch.
vi. If you are feeling unwell consider whether you should play and if you do test positive to COVID-19, you must inform the club and Pro Shop as soon as possible."

Essential work if you can't work from home essentially but I suspect a more clearer list will become available at some point.

NHS workers obviously, super markets and their workers, including delivery drivers (the big 4 plus Aldi & Lidl maybe?) petrol stations (not all), oil and gas as well as power station workers. Basically anyone who is important to keeping UK infrastructure going...

Essential workers are probably the same as this list...

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...horities-on-maintaining-educational-provision
If your work is critical to the COVID-19 response, or you work in one of the critical sectors listed below, and you cannot keep your child safe at home then your children will be prioritised for education provision:
    Health and social care
This includes but is not limited to doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers; the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector; those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributers of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.
    Education and childcare
This includes childcare, support and teaching staff, social workers and those specialist education professionals who must remain active during the COVID-19 response to deliver this approach.
    Key public services
This includes those essential to the running of the justice system, religious staff, charities and workers delivering key frontline services, those responsible for the management of the deceased, and journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting.
    Local and national government
This only includes those administrative occupations essential to the effective delivery of the COVID-19 response, or delivering essential public services, such as the payment of benefits, including in government agencies and arms length bodies.
    Food and other necessary goods
This includes those involved in food production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery, as well as those essential to the provision of other key goods (for example hygienic and veterinary medicines).
    Public safety and national security
This includes police and support staff, Ministry of Defence civilians, contractor and armed forces personnel (those critical to the delivery of key defence and national security outputs and essential to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic), fire and rescue service employees (including support staff), National Crime Agency staff, those maintaining border security, prison and probation staff and other national security roles, including those overseas.
    Transport
This includes those who will keep the air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport modes operating during the COVID-19 response, including those working on transport systems through which supply chains pass.
    Utilities, communication and financial services
This includes staff needed for essential financial services provision (including but not limited to workers in banks, building societies and financial market infrastructure), the oil, gas, electricity and water sectors (including sewerage), information technology and data infrastructure sector and primary industry supplies to continue during the COVID-19 response, as well as key staff working in the civil nuclear, chemicals, telecommunications (including but not limited to network operations, field engineering, call centre staff, IT and data infrastructure, 999 and 111 critical services), postal services and delivery, payments providers and waste disposal sectors.
If workers think they fall within the critical categories above, they should confirm with their employer that, based on their business continuity arrangements, their specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.
