So these brave folk are about to risk their health once again to help others.

there is a **** storm coming and they run willingly to it.

when this is all over we need to somehow show our gratitude to these amazing human beings.

how can we really show our appreciation?

short term we need to stay at home to help protect THEM and ease their workload.

mid term they should have special privileges. Priority shopping has been done.

How about auto 20% discount for all NHS staff?

Free parking wherever they want with an NHS parking pass?

    what else?

    long term:

    A pay rise
    MBE
    A years tax free income
No national insurance payments for life for employees in the front line?

These people will end up quite rightly up there with the few who defended us against the Nazi’s in the Battle of Britain.

we will owe them so much so soon.

    Any other ideas?

I agree - but then all public sector workers should be given the necessary kudos of their position. In general justhave a whopper pay rise back to where all public sectors should be in terms of inflation (as a teacher I know I am about 12% behind in the last 10 years). Being recognised by the government as professionals and the creme de la creme of jobs and treated accordingly.

Maybe the government should re-think the management structure of the NHS - last 15-20 years management has increased significantly to the detriment of the profession.

They certainly should not be paying for car parking.

It was nice of Pret to give NHS workers whatever they gave them but how about they pay the correct tax instead of finding legal loopholes (paying £5m instead of £12m) - this can then be used to provide better working conditions.

Free bus/rail cards (or heavily subsidised)?

    sell the nhs.

choose a different career would be my line of advice for them.

nobody forces them into this line of work and the prospective earnings are laid out in black and white to school leavers.

not saying they dont deserve more because of course they do, but so does everyone in the lower echelons of society.

That's the kind of race to the bottom mentality that frustrates me.
I 100% agree the "lower echelons of society" deserve more but as a society we should be fighting for just that, not suggesting that we keep others down.
The pay of public services was laid out when I joined but I've been doing this for 14yrs and I have less money now in real terms than I did when I started.

I am highly likely to come into contact with someone with Coronavirus as we assist the ambulance service so I imagine its a case of when rather than if.
I don't expect people to worship what we do but it takes the absolute piss when politicians cheer when they win the vote to deny a pay rise but then in the media applaud you.

One of the simplest things you can do is let them go in front of you when they are queuing for their lunch, they may not get the time to buy it let alone eat it

Chippy always lets key workers get served before him in the pub. In fact he lets everybody get served before he even thinks of getting his money out.

Nurses need a pay rise. The job is complex, long hours, they have to make big decisions and they have to deal with all of the family's which can be very challenging the list goes on but at the end of the day they are basically running the show and are not anywhere near compensated enough.

I like chippys idea of really good benefits at least. This does happen but it's very limited. The problem is that they don't have enough creative people who are empowered enough fighting for them at the top of the organisation / in government.

I've always thought that it would be an incredibly interesting job to go into the NHS at at the top of the house as a business change manager . My wife is an occupational therapist and as someone who works for a large corporate where efficiency and investing in people are everything the things I hear about the ways in which they operate literally make my ears bleed. The staff are amazing, they are fantastic at caring for people but they need to be looked after too and the service would reap the benefits. As it is I am sure it would be the most frustrating job ever as it's probably absolutely impossible to get anything done due to having to navigate a huge amount of bureaucracy at every turn.

People are banging on about being on the frontline due to the pandemic yet forget that this is what they do 24/7 52 weeks a year pandemic or no pandemic as do the fire brigade and the police whilst at the same time being treated like **** in the case of the police, being verbally and physically attacked (medical and police).

Public sectors don't need discounts etc they just want what they should be paid in line with inflation (now should be back dated - so most people would get a 12% pay rise roughly).

Would also help morale if the Government/Media and general public weren't such twats towards them.

Most people in education get this! Threats from both parents and children! Nothing ever happens though unless physical and even then they are let off

    I couldn't be a teacher in a million years.
I'd be sacked in week one if a parent got threatening with me. I'd just launch the twat.
I feel for the bairns if their parents, often in front of them are threatening their teachers. The poor bairns probably have a horrid time at home with scum like that.

I've done parents evenings where the parent has said to their child " wait until you get home" and you look at that child and you know straight away it means something parish will fallen. I report this every time it's happened!

99% of all child issues are because their parents are ****tards.

Literally 1 in 5 children have zero respect for those working with them and that has to stern from parents.

I love the sentiment but realistically when this is all over the economy is going to be in no state to dish out money. My wife and I are both already getting full pay in a time when many are having to tighten their belts so I'd feel awkward pushing for a pay rise to be honest, just a better general appreciation of what some of these jobs actually involve would suffice.

That's the big one the collapse in wages when taking into account inflation.
They (government) want us to take on more work streams before they give us a pay rise.
My take is that we should be bought up to where we were before austerity before we even talk about taking on things outside of our role.

Oh I absolutely won't be fighting for a pay rise (though deserved) at this moment in time.
