15.00 on a weekday afternoon and it looks like Sunday morning on the platform. Yesterday's shift was chilled tbh.

Today's might not be though; track circuit failure at St Pancras apparently, so the opportunity is there for everything to **** up.

I'm staggered by America's reaction to this. Trump is now saying he is going to reopen everything to get the economy moving.

Madrid's Palacio de Hielo ice rink – now closed, and being used as a morgue.
In Madrid, it is not just hospitals that are on the verge of collapse. The funeral homes have no space or resources to continue collecting the dead, so now the Palacio de Hielo – the huge 'Ice Palace' ice rink – is becoming the capital's morgue.

Workers like cashiers and cleaners continue to work without protection. Information phone lines on coronavirus are saturated. The army has found elderly people's corpses in the rooms of their homes.

The only relief comes at 8pm, when the people clap from their balconies for health workers. And the only good news is about hospital discharges: 2,063 have now recovered from the virus.

In Spain, Madrid is suffering the worst from the pandemic. This Monday it reached 10,000 cases - a third of the cases in the country - with almost 1,000 admitted to intensive care. 1,263 have died in Madrid, 242 of them just yesterday...

Hospitals are entering their third week of saturation, and some of collapse. The biggest shortage is now in ICU beds and respirators, which are scarce, with more arriving little by little. Over the past week, many hospitals' A&E departments have doubled their capacity, but it is not enough.

Now, days behind in picking up dead bodies from homes and hospitals, funeral directors will stop collecting the deceased today, in dramatic news given by the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida. The solution found has been to turn the Ice Palace into "the great morgue": the 1,800 square metre ice rink will begin collecting bodies tonight.

Translated and abridged from a report by Beatriz Asuar.

This stupid old lady backed herself into a corner and then had to say she'd be willing to die for a day at the beach rather than admit she was wrong.
It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.
There are some elderly folk who, because they've been around a long time think they know it all and refuse to accept they may be in the wrong.
We've seen this type of thing even on this board where there are one or two like it, well one actually.

    Meanwhile, in America:

They genuinely think they are immune. It's like looking into a time machine to the UK last week.

    Really,
what American reaction, I live in the states and there is no where on any credible news feed that President Trump has said that. He has said, that at some point, we need to restart the economy before the country is in total economic ruin. We are basically protecting a small percentage of the population with 95% of the people could be working. A solutions needs to be found where we project the people who need projecting and allowing the people that are a low risk to be able to work. You need to listen to the Governor of New York, who basically said the same thing today. The forum talks about everyone pulling together, but apparently not with anyone who is mental.

Yeah the governor of New York seems to be a great guy from what I've read.

Where did I say anything about not pulling together? Bit of a leap there mate

I suppose there will come a time when the risk posed by the disease is less than the certainty of economic ruin. Economic depression will kill people as well. That is when even harder decisions will have to be made...just as Coventry was sacrificed for the greater good in WWII. I suspect that COVID19 will hang around for a long time (perhaps forever like seasonal flu) but will be a controllable threat with most people healthy enough to fight it and others inoculated against it. There will be a point where the number that die is considered acceptable...just as it is with flu, pneumonia and norovirus.

You have got the wrong idea about how the virus spreads, I'm afraid. ANYONE can spread infection, whether or not they themselves are affected by it. That is the reason for total lockdown, and social distancing, and is why countries like China and South Korea have managed to contain the virus, and why Italy, Spain and others haven't.
