Stick in an Contractual Early Warning. As a employee of a major contractor, we’re being sympathetic with the smaller contractors and letting them make the decisions. A few have opted to follow the government guidance which we have obviously agreed to.
Lived in China from ‘11 to ‘13 and used to always say to other expats that something like this was a matter of when not if. No one ever disagreed. The government there is full of self-praise right now for the way they’ve handled it, but the rest of the world needs to come down on them hard for this (of course they will be too scared to though). Should never let the Chinese government forget that it was all their fault. Sadly I feel shaming them is the only way they will actually try to improve things.
Trump's only "gift" is his ability and determination to distort reality, also a hugh amount of the public who through confirmation bias or stupidity choose to believe his version of events. He's already pushed racial, media and class aspects into how the USA perceive this crisis. His unashamed blame techniques will result in him portraying himself as the "beautiful" saviour of the nation. I'm starting to think Nostradamus was just a couple of decades out in his prediction of the third antichrist.. On a positive note my wife was treated like royalty in Wimborne Waitrose yesterday. While staff restricted the amount of shoppers entering the shop they carefully asked people about their work and circumstances. Upon discovering she was a nurse on her way to work she was whisked through to a storage area at the back of the store where basics were reserved for essential workers and vunerable people. She was quite moved by it all.
4 recovered and 4 new cases here today. Cases have levelled off but the country is bringing home 20,000+ Kuwaitis from all over the world over the next two weeks. They believe they can keep them all in government controlled quarantine which is batshit crazy and I can’t wait to see how they do it.
This is an absolutely wonderful bit of light relief - https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2020/03/2...Rgik5zL29A2_oTbaCHMpLUg#.XnUWrR7baOM.facebook
So far I am liking this social isolation thing. I haven't got dressed or had a wash or shower for five days. I might do today though as the very lovely Mrs Godders drew away from me in disgust last night and said I stank.
If anyone would like to become a NHS volunteer - there are four roles you can offer to do: Community Response: This role involves collecting shopping, medication or other essential supplies for someone who is self-isolating, and delivering these supplies to their home. Patient Transport: This role supports the NHS by providing transport to patients who are medically fit for discharge, and ensuring that they are settled safely back in to their home. NHS Transport: This role involves transporting equipment, supplies and/or medication between NHS services and sites, it may also involve assisting pharmacies with medication delivery. Check-in and Chat: This role provides short-term telephone support to individuals who are at risk of loneliness as a consequence of self-isolation. Here's how you volunteer: https://www.goodsamapp.org/NHS?fbclid=IwAR0RDZHa82z2vQWY3jtSznUvzIShVdxsXmsrTODDsFXFxsOzmLFSPhVu4gQ
Brilliant stuff, and it’s worth pointing out that many communities, including my village, have already set up volunteer networks to do shopping, pick up prescriptions, walk dogs etc., etc. We have 70 people signed up in the last few days, with more coming in daily. Initiatives like this show how generally wonderful people really are!
Prince Charles has coronavirus....reminds me of what the Queen Mother said when the Palace was bombed...'I can now look the East End in the face.' Is a reminder that we are all in this together.
Of course NHS workers should be tested as a first priority, but can equally see why Charles has been tested. They estimate he has been contagious since the 13th March and he has mixed with hundreds of people since then...including the Prince of Monaco who also has the disease. Everyone that has met him at numerous functions has been contacted. Seems sensible to me.
Everyone who has met anyone may have passed it on to someone. Not sure how Prince Charles is any different from an Ocado driver in that regard. We'd miss the Ocado drivers more than Charles though. But the point is moot as they won't be getting tested because, quite rightly, NHS staff are prioritised before them.
I've been watching his schedule over the last few weeks as shown on tv reports. Crowds and handshakes all round, how could he and many others not cross infect? Given WHO and EMA advice, the experiences of other countries and the sensible behaviour of many in the UK shouldn't most of these events have been cancelled or scaled down as an example to all. If he's infected the Queen there'll be hell to pay with the express, mail and sun blaming Jeremy Corbyn.
I have decided to self isolate, in order to protect my wife and hope that I reduce my chances of getting the coronavirus and passing it on. My company are fine with me taking the time off, but not prepared to pay anything more than 2 weeks company sick leave. Any more time taken has to be unpaid or by using up my annual leave. I won’t use annual leave because when we come through this, my wife will need a holiday. As Rishi Sunak said “Now, more than any time in our recent history, we will be judged by our capacity for compassion" Given the record sales the company is experiencing, I would have hoped that they would recognise my situation as one in need of compassion and be a little bit more supportive, financially, but alas not. Looks like the savings are going to take a hit. Edit. Apparently the Wage scheme is only available to those whose job has temporarily been ended. As mine hasn’t I don’t qualify.
Hope all goes well for you St B. How about the Sunak bonanza? Is there anyway you would qualify? With application support from your company and GP.
