I think that many clubs will be thinking of safety issues and risks to their playing staff before committing to resume the season. Looking on line, it would appear that no one now believes the season will resume at the end of April and I suppose with issues like the play offs to decide as well, it would be difficult to envisage the deciding being concluded before the end of June. The close season would probably only last a fortnight! The situation will cause antagonism if teams in promotion positions find themselves losing their players to higher league teams I am not sure how the European places would pan out either because it the season is annulled, does this mean that selection for European football is based upon last season's finishing places? The non-league system is going to be a major headache. I feel sorry for teams like Truro but it must be an impossible situation for a club like Poole Town who already had so many matches postponed due to water-logged pitches. In the case of Poole, having hardly played any football you can see the sense in scrubbing the season. I will be intrigued to see how the non-league game is affected. It is always having to fight for survival and even when teams like Truro get bankrolled, the reality soon returns. I think I am correct in stating that Truro have the travel the furthest of any team to play their away fixtures. Seem to recall reading once that in one particular season, the round trip to their nearest rivals in their league was over 200 miles. You wonder how teams cope.
I am sure I read yesterday that 8 teams have so far ......but as Tom said it needs 14 to be even considered.
Whatever they do, it will be unfair to some. However, the issue is bigger than football IMO. Personally, I can't see how the season can be finished.
Don’t see how it can go past June 30th due to player contracts. That means that realistically it needs to restart mid/late May to have enough time to fit the games in, which I can’t see happening
But that is not always possible - contracts are just that. Need a two way agreement, and if you do for one player you have to do for all. What if the player wants to leave..you cant force him to stay. What if that player is say Danny Ings (it won't be), and without him the team is severely handicapped. Extending contracts jut won't happen or be an option - there are employment laws etc to take into consideration.
The sad fact is, its just not that important. Covid19 will have an impact on every single one of us......and them. I'm personally dreading the scar it will leave. People dying. Mental health issues causing suicide's. Recession. Clubs folding. This season is void, it just hasn't been announced yet.
Like some on here, I feel it is nigh on impossible to finish the season, unless every match is behind closed doors. As for the FA Cup, that has to be void. Furthermore, I feel it would be wise if UEFA scrapped its club competitions for next season.
I contacted BT, about their sports package (trying to cancel it). Their spiel at the start of a phone call says that they will show any/all games in their existing schedule, "when the season resumes". I suspect that BT Sports, and SKY, are in line to lose massive amounts of money, due to the loss of income. Either that, or they try to hold everyone to their contractual obligations, which will do nothing for any goodwill that they may have (but, to be honest, probably don't have).
I wonder if The Premier League and the football League could/will agree or whether there will be no agreement?
Yeah the tv companies won't be happy if it's voided and would want some compensation you expect. Could cause some issues with clubs (including us) who borrow against the tv money every year. With sponsorships though I was more referring it to being another obstacle to playing beyond the end of June.
Sky have offered to cancel the Sky Sports part of the bill....whilst still leaving al the channels running. Sadly I have forgotten my Sky password so have to cancel by phone....haven't the patience to hold on long enough to get through. I accept however that they are being fair...not their fault that I don't know my password or sign in code..
