No, what people don't like is this continual doom and gloom that you seem to be revelling in. It's almost as if you are enjoying this disaster so that you can say "I told you so". It does no-one any good to read this stuff day after day.

I hardly read this thread as it is too depressing and there are not nearly enough inspirational posts about random acts of kindness and stoicism.

I think I am going to have to make a ruling that we keep criticism of the government to the Politics Thread. I know I have been guilty of breaking this rule myself but let's try and confine this thread to news about the virus and people's actions associated with it.

I realise this isn't directly related to Covid-19 but a couple of months ago I bought a 2 kilo pack of 'Wildflower Meadow Seed Mix' and have been taking small amounts out with me when I go for a walk. It's amazing how many neglected small verges there are that the council don't bother cutting and these forlorn areas are perfect to seed. So that's exactly what I do. It's made me look at the area differently and I'm hoping these places will look a little brighter this year.

A small group of us have got together and contacted Fareham council to ask them to stop mowing a number of the larger grassed areas so the seeds have a chance to get established. We are also going to brighten up some of the drab areas on the verges of some of the farms locally. Hopefully it will be a bit of a boost to our local insect and bee population, and it will also look rather nice.

If the plan works out well, the seeded areas should look a bit like this .....

The shut down has already been a welcome boast to the insect community, I can see changes already. It won't be a bright side for a lot of people, but it is to me. Perhaps with more time spent in gardens, the more people will grow to appreciate our wildlife............no matter how small.

If anyone on here is bored in doors, or just trying to get the kids outside for a bit. Go and find the best insect bush in the garden/surrounding area and stand there for ten minutes monitoring who comes and goes. And I guarantee you will see at least five species of Bee, and three of Wasp's you haven't seen before. The solitary one's are doing quite well at the moment. Teach the children how important they are, and how good natured the Wasp (99%) really is, so they can grow up to become a non-flapper, and a bit of a creature lover.

    ---------------------

Bee's and Wasps are essential. The one aggressive type of Wasp give's all its cousins a bad name. And only because humans seek sugary goodness in the summer months when they are feeding their young. Wasp's are awesome.

I had a phone call from The Cabinet Office this morning. They tried your number, St Godders, but a woman answered and said that you had more important things to be getting on with.
