my wifes mate is a nurse working in london and yesterday said icu's there are all about full.
she warned my wife. stay safe. its coming.

lets hope those emergency ventilators from smith and nephew can save the day for many all over the country.
i hope they big up that they are from hull and just like when we first went up to the prem we will become everyone's second team and be like a breath of fresh air.

For those that understand these things, if London has been hit hard by this current wave, are they actually better set for the future due to immunity, compared to somewhere like here, where more of us are liable to get hit in a second wave?

Will we get more lockdowns after the initial one, and/or is ours liable to last longer?

My dad is in HRI at the minute (not related to Covid-19 - though he was tested as a precaution and it was negative) and staff there have said to him that next week will be the worst week and people really should stay home next week, maybe not even risking going to the shops.

Your question is excellent, deep and at the moment unanswerable.

Here's a so called expert who is having a very difficult time answering more fundemantal questions.(first link below).

Experts are struggling to get to the bottom of this situation. Most countries have put into place tactics that logically seem to address the "reduce the spread" potential, and protect their health care facilities from being overstretched to breaking point. In the meantime, it seems that there are many countries (hopefully being co-ordinated) frantically trying to (1) develop tests to determine who's got the disease, (2) who's had it and carries "anti-bodies" and theoretically "may" be immune, and (3) how to develop a vaccine to combat the enemy within.
Testing the asymptomatic individuals who may have had it & developed immunity (perhaps) seems to be the key .

The economy unfortunately is gonna be the collateral damage, with all the spin-offs that means, as well as the tragic death toll directly attributed to this virus.

A fair number of those countries didn't get out of the blocks fast enough. (I'll avoid any political commentary here for obvious reasons, but whatever "leaked" from a so-called "untrustworthy China" wasn't jumped on fast enough - i.e. they acquiesced on that information - rather surprisingly. )

Apologies for what might seem a ramble - the main issue imo is the confusing , often conflicting info we're getting from the media channels !

    Roughly 30 minutes...

Here's another "analysis" of the situation...1 hour I'm afraid:

Research shows that people die around 23 days after infection. So the people dying at the moment probably had before the lockdown.

I cant see 01 May or whatever has been suggested here as viable at all. I can see 01 June as being a date to aim for...

23 days after being diagnosed as having symptoms or getting medical attention. It seems that the virus may take up to 14 days to "incubate" is what I've read/heard. The window could therefore be around 30-35ish days before death.

Just be careful because people are going crazy from being in lock down!

Actually I've just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee and we all agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything. Certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end the iron straightened me out as she said everything will be fine, no situation is too pressing. The vacuum was very unsympathetic... told me to just suck it up, but the fan was more optimistic and hoped it would all soon blow over! The toilet looked a bit flushed when I asked its opinion and didn’t say anything but the door knob told me to get a grip. The front door said I was unhinged and so the curtains told me to ........yes, you guessed it .....pull myself together

I hope it made you smile :emoticon-0140-rofl:
