Yes and that’s as unsustainable for football as it would be for any other business. Our wage bill is over 80% of our total turnover, so of course it is, same as every other PL club.
I agree, so if they are saving the money from the wages and using a small % to keep the lights on at the club where are you suggesting the rest goes? Into a contingency type pot to pay wages when this is over and income is still lower for a bit? Or are you saying that there is no “rest” and the club would have to be taking out loans to cover the wages if they weren’t furloughed? (Hungover and thick today)
At the minute each club faces the likelihood of at least a £35m TV clawback, plus refunding of tickets, sponsorships etc if the season doesn’t finish, So their income is currently £0, with the likelihood that it’s probably running at a huge deficit. So players wages saved now, will offset some of the potential clawback and loss of revenue. The only reason this is even a debate and clubs haven’t just done it anyway, is due to the transfer value of players, as if they laid them off like any normal worker, then they could leave on a free.
Attacking me, with even the most dull-witted comment, will get you likes from the embittered few that I have had cause to level with my own wit.
Well these times are unprecedented so let’s hope they pull their finger out. All clubs stood and watched Bury die last summer, they’ll be the first of many unless the FA stop pandering to billionaire crooks.
I am getting more and more disillusioned with elite football (and other highly paid sports). I already knew the owner of my club was a ****, but it seems other owners are joining him, and now the top players are giving it a shot too. It's easy for me to say as I haven't shelled out for a season ticket like some on here, but I reckon we should show them how we feel about this with our wallets. Those who haven't already given the clubs their money through season tickets could take this into their own hands by deciding to lend their support to lower league and non-league clubs when football does return. Not forever, just long enough to make a point. They have all seriously misjudged the mood of the general public on this one.
Ahhh, the poor players being made to look bad by not agreeing to fund the more poorly paid says Rooney. Priceless!! Maybe we should organise a benefit gig for their hurt feelings. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52172196 Look at what the Juve players and manager have done. That's moral leadership. https://www.euronews.com/2020/03/29...llion-to-help-club-through-coronavirus-crisis
I was going to ask what the point of furlough is, since it just means the clubs save money, but I read on and it's just so the PL can afford to null and void the league
You're one of the apologists, calling for a couple of months of furlough as inconsequential virtue signalling. I say raises taxes on all high earners significantly and permanently.
Your attempted whataboutery on this subject has been cringeworthy. You’ve tried everything from Rees Mogg to Jeff Bezos to try and excuse the greedy ****s You’re now trying to conflate taxation with greedy ponces in the PL refusing to take their share of the wage pain everyone else is taking. ****ing embarrassing.
Oh ok, the economic pain will be over in a couple of months. Once footballers are playing again their wages aren't a problem any more? The system of most the country living one paycheck from diasaster while billionaires use tax havens wasn't the problem. Footballers were the problem. Back to business as usual after 12 weeks.
Even the less well-paid cricketers are making professional footballers look like what they truly are https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/52174154
I agree with you, why are only football players expected to take pay cuts. Not much is being said about other rich people in society Rees Mogg being one of them his net worth is 150 million that's more then any premier league player surely he should take a pay cut on his MP salary but that's not being mentioned in the press
