How would you know what stage of infection they were at when they were tested though? Plus, many that died had underlying conditions, which will skew the data too.

I agree about the graphs the media use though. I doubt too many of the 'journalists'* understand too much of what they're looking at, beyond it's use as a sensationalist item.

My guess is we're about two weeks from a peak.

*do we have any actual 'journalists' as opposed to article writers, presenters and shock jockeys?

I'm sure various Scientific Publications will eventually contain all of this sort of data. Most (but not all) "journalists" are not very good with science in my experience.

And sadly, their guff often gets into peoples mind, and even into schools at times.

It’s scary how people cannot spot fake news too. There was a trend a few days ago of a post on Facebook declaring McDonalds were about to reopen their stores. The post was apparently made by McDonalds and thousands shared it and all missed that the word “McDonalds” was spelt wrong on the post.

There are some highly respected and robust bodies doing worse. Watch for the ones that talk over others, usually with emotive, personal comments during interviews.

On the subject of news and graphs...just use a different scale so it looks better for your point.

The number of infections on the graphs also don’t take into account the number of tests that were done so that skews it too.

The former WHO scientist who’s tweet I shared on the previous page said next week for the peak.

My observations from today's government approved exercise, less people out generally, a lot less motor vehicles, most running, walking, cycling etc being sensible. Hopefully the minority don't spoil it for the majority

Seeing lots of posts of how nature has benefited from all of these lockdowns on beaches, rivers, in the skies, etc.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that there'll be 'a' peak next week, followed by another higher one the week after. I'm not claiming any special knowledge or expertise (far from it), I'm just curious to see if it plays out, so this will act as a time stamp for me.

I hope I'm totally wrong, and it all improves from this point on.

Which proves the main driver was ice-cream sales. <ok>

Did you know that there is actually a statistical correlation between ice cream sales and shark attacks? It's used to demonstrate flaws in assumptions on correlation and causation.

It might have no relation but when that volcano erupted and cancelled all those flights a few years back, a similar thing happened with the weather etc.

What, ice cream sales went down? :emoticon-0100-smile

    Statistics can be a minefield.

It'd be nonsense, but the current stats could show that there's been an increase in hospital admissions for respiratory ailments, at a time of vastly improved air quality. Would it be a valid claim?

There are a lot of claims about increases in extreme weather events, but the claims don't usually take into account that it's 'reported' events due to mobile technology and 24 hour news. Deaths from extreme natural events have actually reduced by over 90%% and depending which figures you use, there's been no real change in the actual number of events.

    Biggest wake up call ever
if your child gets this virus
    they're going to hospital alone!!!!
in a van with people they don’t know
to a room they don’t know
to be with people they don’t know
You will be at home without them in their time of need

    Think about it
Stay at home, dont go out.

Please spread this, not a virus

A few? Precisely a decade. I was stuck alone in a country with my ex-wife for a week, after getting stranded dropping our son off. Branded into my memory.

To add to that, the position is liable to be similar for non-covid admissions too, assuming they're 'fortunate' enough to get a bed.
