Fair for all clubs. As much as it hurts for Leeds to not get promoted, the relegation spots are even tighter. For leeds to be promoted, youd have to relegate teams that are level on points. That cant happen. So, the choices are: 1) finish the season before the contracts expire 2) Null and void the season Based on the growth rate of the virus spreading and its fatality rate, option 2 is by far the most likely
There are many options, but the moneymen will ultimately decide. I would suggest a compromise: 1. Complete this season, as late as it has to be. 2. Start & finish the next 2 seasons late (Jan to Nov?), to eventually dovetail into the Qatar WC
Newcastle lad here. 100% personally feel leeds should get the promotion. Never had ill feeling towards the club. Being through **** to get where you’ve finally managed to get, some clubs who get promoted from the champ falls on luck (play off finals) for example. Be nice to have Leeds back in the PL. (Have to be nice my future in laws are from Leeds)
The problem with whatever is decided,it will be good for some teams and a disaster for others. Personally I would like to see the season finished irrespective of how long it takes. As there are only a few games left, the 20/21 season could start straight away and extended at the back end if required. You cannot write this season off or finish as it stands.
With all due respect your argument doesn’t make sense and isn’t fair, there are games left to the season , just complete them , as and when we are able. There is no sense to starting next season before this one is complete. There is no reason once games are able to be resumed to not play 2 games a week , so it won’t take long to complete anyway. As Gary Lineker pointed out this morning the players won’t need another break or pre season, allowing next season to start as soon as this one ends. Bottom line is the season has to be completed imo. Next season can be set for fewer games if necessary in a way that is fair.
With the Euros pushed to 2021, why is everyone so quick to write this season off? It can restart in May and June, play 2 games a week and scrap all Euro competitions, allowing countries to complete their domestic seasons. If not, then call the season now and positions are what they are, allowing for those with games in hand to have their current point per game applied, as it’s the only fair way. The teams in 3rd in The Championship and L1, and 4th in L2 go up, as playoffs would be a nightmare scenario. Simple really, why forsake the 37 games that have gone for the 9 left, it makes no sense? Where there are teams who have played fewer games, the fairest way to assess those games in hand is to average points per game over the season and add those. Of course, some teams will complain bitterly about that (Villa) for example, but the bottom line is, that has been their form over more than 3/4 of this season, why would you expect a sudden upturn in form.
I can’t see this season concluding on the pitch, and to award promotions and relegations based on current positions would incur legal challenges as others have pointed out, so that leaves 2 options; Scrap the season completely and start afresh next season, or allow the current points tally to be carried over - that way the points gained/lost this season won’t be totally irrelevant.
No-one's been able to tell me why this season should be curtailed in favour of next season. What's the advantage? I really don't understand why people propose this. Genuinely.
I'm aiming to win the lotto before then. And there's more chance of that happening than this restart!
Quite a valid excuse to be fair. In the Championship alone, there are over 170 players that will be out of contract on 30th June. Can you make then stay at the club after that date? Charlton Athletic for example, have 17 players out of a squad of 27 that will be out of contract. The agents of some of these players will already have deals lined up for next season. Even if the Leagues come to some arrangement where these players have to play on till season is complete, how many of them are going to bust a gut for the current team knowing they'll be playing for someone else a few weeks later?
The Sun are well reputed for printing fake news - and they got caught doing it a while back with that story about Elton John. Got fined for it and all - plus forced into printing a big ‘sorry Elton’ front page apology. scumbags!
