https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52182153 Even the top staff at the likes of sport direct are taking pay cuts...
Just seen this on Twitter. If true then I can keep my love of Everton. This is in addition to match day staff who were ensured they would be paid up for all this seasons games played or not.
Exactly as it should be looks like we might be having a rethink quite rightly If true that would be the second time we have got it wrong but listened which is always encouraging
At the ends of the day some clubs players have taken wage reductions in order to ensure the non playing staff get paid. This should extend to all highly paid members of Liverpool football club. I would think at that point there would be no need to order the government scheme.
I don't think any premier league football club should be taking advantage of it to be honest, you lot shouldn't have had to be shamed into it though at least you've got there in the end. Be interesting to see how this might increase pressure on other clubs.
Some Prem clubs may have to do it as not all are as well off as the top few, but if they do it would be a good gesture if they then paid the money back to the government when this mess is all over and matters return to normal.
Not just PL clubs though I'd it? Many other mega rich companies or there that are claiming too, football is just a higher profile.
Well Tbf you wouldn’t Also admitted making a mistake - always encouraging Yes would have been nice to get it right first time but happy they have taken this decision.
Just disappointing to see clubs like Barcelona & Atletico being proactive during this and Liverpool not doing anything until we were forced into a corner by the media & general public pressure. Everton honestly put Liverpool to shame when it comes to their behaviour and it probably shows the importance of having a local voice on the board who shares the values of the people of the city, rather than a board full of businessmen only interested in the financial side of things and the 'product'.
Totally agree When we started discussing this a while back I said was not worried about any of the prem clubs. Chiefly cause they are businesses but we know this and we are signed up to it as supporters. We dance with the devil being where we are and what we are trying to achieve - very little place for morality at the top top tables my issues are definitely at the bottom ends of football and it’s very sad that it will be money that ultimately decides all issues Coronavirus has just highlighted everything my area people are really looking after each other which is wonderful to see community spirit been great, however we will see how that continues the longer we stay on lockdown when desperation sets in it has also brought into focus those that will literally try anything to get a rise no matter what
Well yeah but rightly or wrongly we expect more from our football clubs don't we? They're supposed to represent the local community and are more invested in doing so than the large companies you're talking about. Clubs portray themselves as a 'family' and have big campaigns playing on this fact, 'this means more' and so on. I've never seen McDonalds claim it's the passion of the local people that makes them so special. We're the same with our #togetherasone ****e. I'll be appalled if we take money from the taxpayer to pay our staff when we receive hundreds of millions in broadcasting revenues.
This ^ Football clubs are part of the fabric of local communities. They’re not merely businesses that sit on a par with the corporates. Take my own club for example. We have a massive and hugely successful local community operation - Everton in the Community. A charity that the club is rightly proud of. How could we furlough our working class locally based employees whilst proclaiming to be a club that is at the heart of the local community? The answer is we couldn’t and we didn’t. @Lucaaas is spot on in what he says there, Liverpool made a cold business call, that wasn’t befitting of their position and maybe that call was due to their lack of genuine local understanding at board level.
