Whoa there, black billy try to chill a bit. Understandably we are all getting a bit fraught at the moment, including me. I've tried to stay upbeat during this time but now even I am feeling uneasy, so I understand how you feel and also agree with a lot of what you say.
We have three off topic threads ( politics, environmental and coronavirus) where the general theme is "everything is wrong in the world" and it gets depressing to read it all the time. And that was before the virus really took hold.
But although there is not much football to talk about, this is a football forum (a good one at that) and hopefully we will all be able to get on with each other long enough to resume footy talk when we get the chance. I don't like seeing the type of arguments that have gone on here recently which have led to members leaving the forum.

    Yep, agreed.

I’m silent now, I said my piece and it’s done.

Thanks for the message, much appreciated...

It would be a shame to lose you Billy. I don't think anyone on this thread talks bollocks, we all have differing views and should respect that but I do draw the line at anyone sympathetic to Trump.

You are quite correct Billy in that I proposed no solutions. You don’t like the Politics thread and don’t read it because you feel it’s bollocks? Fair enough, but just because you think it’s bollocks, it doesn’t mean it is bollocks. My post was mainly about Boris Johnson and his Covid-19 infection, and what might come of it regarding the NHS. Yes I mentioned things of a political nature but **** me sideways, it’s almost nigh-on impossible not to when mentioning Covid-19 or the NHS. All the threads have become a bit scrambled at the moment but such is life. It took me a while but I got over that and even the arguments show that we are still alive and kicking. It ain’t all bad.

No one has the answers for the problems we are going to be facing over the coming months, because no one knows what the full social implications of this virus will be. The one thing we can be certain of is they will be far reaching and possibly change and affect us all in some way or another. The fact is that we face a very different world when this virus lockdown ends.

Who is going to feel willing to sit in a call centre for minimum wages with hundreds of others, not knowing who might be carrying the virus? Who is going to do a non-essential job and risk their life or the life of their family for crap money while the rich get even richer. The days of people like Tim Martin and Richard Branson, to name but two, are well and truly numbered. Multi-millionaires who treat their staff like dirt during a crisis will be long remembered for what they are.

The days of hyper-globalisation are over. No country can afford to place essential goods such as medicine, medical supplies and food on the reliance of supply chains that may fracture in a crisis such as this. We have to be self sufficient on these things so we have to manufacture them here. That increases jobs in newly defined essential industries and those working in such industries need decent wages. That will make for a fairer and more resilient country. Wages need to increase for what we now call the gig economy and that means we have to pay more for what we buy. We have to accept it because it’s going to happen anyway. Flying will decrease massively because not only will people be concerned about being infected, people in other countries are not going to be so dependent on tourism because of the risks involved. A vaccine will change a lot of that, unless the virus mutates like they usually do.

Just so you know, I have closed my business through this virus lockdown so I’m not blind to what affect this virus is having. You blow off as much steam as you feel Billy and if I think you are wrong I’ll try not to bite. I really just wondered whether we might have a clearer view of the kind of world we would like to live in, rather than be a part of an insane rat race that ends up killing us. Surely our aim must be to build economies and societies that are more durable, and also far more humane, than those that were exploited by the greed of billionaires. Yes it’s political, but so are most things. Even football.

The world’s 2,153 billionaires have more wealth than 4.6 billion people (60% of the world’s population).

Change that and we change everything.

I've out today twice just looping the neighbouring streets with the dogs. Oñe more outing later this evening in between standing on the balcony and clapping, reading Bill Bryson and studying more Spanish.

Oh, and I didn’t mean to give the impression I was leaving the forum, I meant the conversation.

I’m going nowhere until banished to beyond by those in Government. I mean Power. I mean Chilcs.

You are definitely in no danger of being banned Billy. As has been said, you are very welcome to express whatever views you like on this forum, and if you think we are all singing from the same hymn sheet, we need you to balance things out a bit.

    Love and peace.

The very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov and I are both of an age where they wont be attaching us to any respirator if things get really bad so as you can imagine we are both anxious and taking great care of ourselves because if we contract this virus then we are probably dead. We are also spending a lot of time together and becoming much closer than we have been for a long time. I can also report that we have only had one little tiff, well it was a bit more than a tiff actually, when she caught me sterilising my hands with her gin. We have never been able to get any of that gel stuff. She got her own back though because when she went to do the shopping I asked her to get me a couple of bottles of scotch as I had drunk the last of my supply. She returned without any saying the supermarket had run out. She left me to moan for a couple of hours and then went and got two bottles from the boot of her car.<party>(There is no way I can dance like that but it felt like I could have).

My main problem at the moment is that I have had years of practice trimming my beard and moustache but I can't do a thing about my hair which is now down the back of my neck and over my shirt collar. I am starting to look like the Wild Man of Borneo. The very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov has volunteered to cut it for me waving her sewing scissors and the pudding basin in my direction. I may yet have to let her do her worse.

This may not be the done things to do, but I would like to say that Billy sent me a very kind hearted PM and all is good with us. It takes a really decent guy to do that.

Life is all a bit odd at the moment and as Ozvaldo just posted, we are all Saint's fans and we are in this together.

Peace, good health and goodwill to everyone.

Good evening Billy and very pleasant it is here in the Hague. It helps to know that everyone's right on this forum but some are more right than other's right so my right is righter than another's right, right?

Well, it's nice that you are becoming closer. And you're right, you wouldn't be first in line for respirators. One thing that Mrs Godders has a decent quibble with - don't bother trying to sterilise your hands with her gin. 40% isn't enough alcohol to do it. So drink it, possibly in a dry Martini. So dry you omit the Martini. :1980_boogie_down:

Today we took on the latest few people to help with production on the big orders that have come in due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, towards the end of the day I was absolutely fuming. I knew that these people were instructed on when they could take off face masks and gloves. Yet about only 2 of the 6 new people abided by the rules. Either they put on the masks with their noses over the top [****ing pointless wearing the mask at all], or they were wearing it like a chinstrap [which again is ****ing pointless]. None of them wore gloves at certain times. Yet the minute they set foot inside the building they have to wear these things and not take them off, unless to re-adjust them or when drinking and eating, and then well away from other people. By the end of the day, the usual experienced workers were starting to think, "wtf am I bothering to be strict about my hygiene for?", and they started to become slack in their behaviour, and started deciding to do the same. I shall have something to say tomorrow if the attitude doesn't change. One infectious person could shut the whole company down within 14 days.

Well, my short lived hopes of being furloughed, have hit the rocks as my company steadfastly refuses to acknowledge that the rules have changed.
They are still saying that it only applies to people who might be made redundant, and are ignoring the updated version that clearly extends it to people with care needs.
Not quite sure if their action is due to stupidity or if they are just being deliberately punitive, in case anyone else should want to put a loved one’s life ahead of their operation. Heaven forbid.
I will give it one last go, tomorrow, and if no joy comes of it, then I might forward it to the local media.
