Just came home and had a phone call that my mates mum has died in a nursing home from likely COVID. Saving grace was she died in the home and wasn’t taken to hospital to die alone. Her and my mates Dad were the ones who took me to Rangers for the first time when I was a lad....They won’t ever be forgotten RIP Rose M ....
Sorry to hear that mate, this really is hurting us now. I fear for so many in nursing homes and their staff are another group of workers that are sitting ducks...
Apparently she is the fourth resident to die in similar circumstances in the same home....and I have heard stories that there have been 10 deaths in another home in my area. This is hitting the elderly big time
I wanted to, but as Type 1 was told no chance. Also said to the Legion about helping out, same reply. Staines, as I am still staying in is there anything I can do from home?
As far as I’m aware a lot of local area groups are organising for people to call the elderly and vulnerable by phone to check they are ok and to give some company and support. That could be a good one for you Nige
Staines, this is no joke, I wear hearing aids, more or less totally deaf in right ear and struggle to hear on phones. I really want to do something.
Sorry to hear that Nige.....I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to suggest. Don’t worry too much mate, we can all only do what we can
Sorry to hear of your loss Sooper. It is heartbreaking for anyone who loses a loved one during these times. I lost a close friend yesterday to Cancer. His partner is also a close friend of ours and it really is so heartbreaking how she is left alone after spending months caring for him so amazingly at home. Not knowing what will happen next is going to be so painful for her and for his family. I don’t know when we will be able to say our goodbyes to him - but my thoughts are for his partner and his family first and foremost.
Kiwi, I can't bake a cake. But what I will do when this *hit is over and we start playing football again, I will supply cake(s) for a home game. One that Staines can make.
https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/masks4nhsheroes I saw James McAvoy on the Beeb earlier and he'd made a sizeable donation to this funding initiative. For those minded to do their bit, I thought this was as good an outlet as any right now. Good for the soul.
Uncle Update: Just heard from my aunt (via my mother) that my uncle is being allowed home today, but that he and my aunt have to stay isolated from each other for another seven days in their home, which will be something of a challenge. Lot's of ongoing deep-cleaning for them both, but great news.
Sincere condolences Sooper and Stainsy, these are the people that mould our lives. These are truly terrible and sad times. The whole scenario of the current fear and worry and the dread of dying alone, fills me with terror. So many people we know personally or "know" through the context of media, news etc are affected. My husband's aunt and two close friends of mine have parents are in care homes and Iam so worried about them, if someones guard is down and the virus gets in...so many will die there. It is just so awful Personally I cannot say thank you enough for all the people who are looking after us the NHS, the shop workers, the supply chain, the essential workers...like the gas man who sortedout our boiler last week. All the NHS volunteers too. My job is shopping for a lady in the village who just seems to want eggs, Baileys and rubber gloves! But at least I feel a little bit useful We are all in this together, just be nice to each other. We have no idea what the other person is going through
Sorry, Soops, I missed this last night. Heartfelt condolences on the loss of your friend. Tough times. The wife not having access is a sad tale being told around the country (and world) at this time. Impossible situation for everybody.
My daughter has had a truly horrible scaremongering voice message forwarded to her by no less than four different people. I refused to listen to it, but it was about hundreds of babies and young children dying of the virus. Deep down she knew it was wrong, but as she has two young children it scared her nonetheless. The people that do this are scum.
