I want an app to track that £1bn donation. Seriously. How do you even donate that? I'd build a hospital. Or get some scientists and grind the vaccine. But how do you donate that much money?

Yeah, the thing is with that, soldiers like being told what to do. That’s why they join the army.

Some of us don’t like being told what to do; especially not by soldiers. I’ll try to behave responsibly, thanks, and make decisions based on consideration for others.

But I will try to do the right thing only because it’s the right thing, not because someone who volunteered to fight in a war thinks that gives him the right to tell me what to do. Boris, to his credit and despite his many faults, appears to recognise this trait in the British character.

    Okay, rant over.

    My sentiments exactly.
I manged to get up and go to work, not because someone shouted at me.
I'm a good member of society, my moral compass is fixed at a good angle.
Not because someone drilled it into me.
I respect the forces, but sometimes its young men who need direction.
Some of us make our own good direction, and that gets my respect as well.

I hear what you both say and of course I agree. In an ideal world there wouldn’t be any need for rules. The vast majority are happy to self-isolate because, as you say, it’s the right thing to do.

Trouble is, there are many people in this world, in this country, even in my village, who appear not to have any moral compass. My next door neighbours appear to have gone on holiday, leaving their son on his own, who appears to have moved his girlfriend in. Other people seem not to have any clue that “people like us” (their words) can be killed by the virus. With unmitigated idiots like that going round doing their level best to infect the rest of us, I’m glad the rules are there, thank you.

And then there's the very vulnerable group of people, struggling in isolation.
Loads more suicides this week. Its such a difficult situation to manage.

Wouldn't say I'm that bad but staying in all the time has got to my head more than I anticipated. Can understand how it can drive someone to feel like that.

I know exactly what you mean, I'm really glad to be back at work after my self-isolation. A routine is so important. The days roll into one when you live in a one bedroom flat with no garden!!

Overall cases are slowing but tragically death tolls will take some time to catch up, but the trend could be falling.

The reporting is numbing me to death. 700 here, 500 there.
Its like some morbid richter scale to when you can go back outside.
We live in truly strange times.

Just seen the new death figures for what I thought was the UK, only to realise that the BBC was reporting the UK deaths by individual country. Why? Are they trying to kid people into thinking the figures aren’t as high as they actually are?
    828 in England
    33 in Wales
    5 in N.I.
    70 in Scotland.
    936 UK total.
That is a lot of deaths and they are still, as far as I am aware, deaths that occurred in hospital.
