I don't have an opinion on it, the WHO operate on evidence given to them. If China did supply them with dodgy info (which I doubt, actually, given that they've been supplying medical supplies to other stricken nations, including us), then the WHO isn't at fault, but there's just suspicion, no evidence. Wuhan have just released their lockdown, they've had less deaths than we have in their country.

Which of course is irrelevant, because it's got nothing to do with Trump trying to deflect away from the fact that he's made a total pigs ear of this whole pandemic, China bullshit or no China bullshit.

That’s exactly the point. China dropped everyone in it, now they want to ride in on horseback and save the day. Their global image is very important to them.

Officially they have had less deaths than here. Unofficially, doctors in Wuhan estimate the Wuhan death toll alone was in excess of 40,000 people. Apparently every morgue was at capacity, including the temporary ones that got knocked up.

The World Health Organization has been criticized for putting the world at risk by credulously accepting China's information about the coronavirus pandemic despite widespread accusations of a cover-up.

    INITIAL RESPONSE TO OUTBREAK

As concern about the crisis developing in Wuhan grew in December, the WHO parroted the Chinese government's line stating there was 'no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission'.

The United Nations agency then took another week to correct that statement.

    EFFUSIVE PRAISE FOR CHINESE OFFICIALS

The World Health Organisation and its leader Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus heaped praise on the Chinese repsonse to the virus even as it spread around the world.

After a meeting in Beijing in January, Dr Tedros said: 'Its actions actually helped prevent the spread of coronavirus to other countries.' He said he was 'very impressed and encouraged by the president's detailed knowledge of the outbreak.'

    ACCEPTANCE OF CHINESE STATISTICS

The WHO has also been criticized for not standing up to the disinformation coming from Beijing, which has been accused of downplaying the seriousness of the outbreak and misreporting its true death toll figures.

In total China has only reported 3,200 coronavirus deaths, despite claims that the real figure is closer to 40,000 in Wuhan alone.

    ACCUSATIONS OF RACISM

Dr Tedros has at times called out other countries for their handling of the crisis.

In particular he lamented the 'level of stigma we are observing' in reference to the language used by President Trump to describe it as the 'China virus'.

    CRITICISM OF TRUMP'S TRAVEL BAN

On January 31, the Trump administration announced travel restrictions on people coming from China due to the outbreak.

But on February 3, WHO said such bans on travel and trade were not needed.

As the contagion began to spread outside of Wuhan where it originated, the WHO reassured the world that the virus was a regional problem.

Most countries have since adopted the same stringent 'stay at home' rules and others have imposed lockdowns restricting citizens' movements.

REFUSAL TO DECLARE A GLOBAL HEALTH EMERGENCY

In late January, when the virus had already spread to several countries, a WHO emergency committee debated whether to declare COVID-19 a 'public health emergency of international concern'.

However Dr Tedros declined amid Beijing's objections and instead traveled to China, before finally making the declaration a week later on January 30.

At the time he said: 'The Chinese government is to be congratulated for the extraordinary measures it has taken.

'I left in absolutely no doubt about China's commitment to transparency.'

Also in late January, Tedros complimented China's President Xi Jinping for the country's handling of the virus, as the Chinese leader centralized the response after local officials in Wuhan couldn't keep the outbreak under control.

I believe that we are managing the situation far better than the other countries. Spain recorded its first death just 1 day before us.

I have removed the graphs because for the second time the way the U.K. records deaths has been changed. Although the figure isn’t massively different the trend is.

And yet Japan has had only 109 deaths as of yesterday, and that includes some imported ones off the cruise ships. Strange things indeed.

It is sad, but these will be people infected prior to the lock down, so I reckon we need to be ready for a few high numbers for a week yet.

If you make a graph of new cases. and overlay daily deaths, but with a fortnight lag, they follow a similar trend, but with the gap increasing as it gets nearer to today, which is promising.

The daily reported death figures are hopeless to use as a source of information. They just announce how many were reported to PHE in the 24 hour period between 5pm > 5pm. The actual date of the death is often days or sometimes weeks behind.

The ONS statistics will be able to paint a decent picture as they actually use the death certificate and will include the deaths from the wider community though they will come along much later.

The key word there is "accusation". Be as suspicious as you want, it still isn't concrete.

Do you think Trump has handled it well? Or you reckon he cocked up when he said it's 15 people infected, set to go down to zero in a matter of days? Or when he said it would go away in April because of the warm weather? Or just generally being a bellend and not taking this as seriously as other countries?

EDIT: You didn't provide a source, but given the way it's written and slanted towards knocking world organisations and boosting our individuality on the planet, I'd wager that article came from the ****rag that is the Daily Mail.

Mr Lewis said that during its peak week of stockpiling, Tesco sold:

    • 3.1 million containers of liquid soap, an increase of 363%
    • 6 million tins of beans, more than double the usual amount
    • 3.3 million tins of tomatoes, up 115% compared to a typical week
    • 3.6 million packets of toilet roll, an increase of 76%
In contrast, he said sales of clothing and fuel both fell by 70%

    O
K own up, who bought 6 million tins of baked beans?
