There was certainly no other way that Qatar were ever going to be awarded a World Cup. It's always stunk, and hopefully this is the excuse that will take it away again, before any more slave labourers die in the name of football.

I wouldn't hold your breath. The corruption has been talked about since the day Qatar came out of the envelope and people shifted uncomfortably in the background. Nothing will change.

Interesting to see if they lose any players because of it

Their average wage is about £2K, so most would get close to their wages I guess - Lee Cattermole is on £40k though so that'll be a hell of a reduction

Lucky escape I suppose, for now. This virus is going to decimate football worldwide, I'd be surprised if we have 4 functioning professional leagues in England when it's all over.

The BBC are running an article called "What are you missing most about the absence of football?" https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/52213693

To be honest, with the way things have gone, I don't think I'm missing much at all. I've lost interest in football for the time being, not because "there are more important things than football" but because the season has been interrupted for so long. We don't know how it's going to pan out, but starting up the league again doesn't have much appeal. For me the season is finished.

Me too. The thing I’m missing most of all is having a pint and a chat in the pub. Football, or any sport, seems to be something I used to have an interest in.

Which kind of illustrates its relative importance in the world.

I’m missing the argument/joy/stupidity (delete as appropriate) in here on match day. I love how we go from despair to joy and back again in seconds. I love how when it is football related we will argue and call each other names, but unlike the politics arguments we are all friends the next day.

    Should have been:
“In the name of football, **** off”

We’d be friends then the next day

I'm missing the build up, the anticipation.
I'm missing the discussion, the disagreements.
I'm missing the line up, and Ralph's mistake's.
I'm missing, but not as much as Shane.

The thing I miss most about going to St Mary's is meeting up with all the disabled guys and girls, having a great time with them and seeing how much it means to them to be a part of something that everyone else does. Often, a day out at St Mary's is a really fun time for people who struggle with just getting through life on a day to day basis. It would be even better if Saints were to win more matches, but there is always the hope we will. It will be great to see them all again when things return to some kind of normal, but me thinks normal won't be like any normal we have known before.

Norman Hunter in hospital with coronavirus. Even though he was a thug who sometimes played football, get well soon Norman.

This was quite a regular sight when Leeds came to town. They weren't called Dirty Leeds for nothing.

I see that the Scottish clubs are currently voting to end the season up there. I think it can only be a short while before the English clubs come to the same conclusion albeit I not quite sure what that will be! If the newspapers are correct, then it looks like nothing is going to return to normal and social distancing measures will continue until September. I cannot see how the current season will continue until it is allowed to pick up in the autumn and then the 20/21 season is reduced. Not sure how that will work! My guess is that we will start a new season perhaps 6 weeks later than normal with no relegation and promotion from 19/20.

The other thing is that there has been no notice regarding renewing the season tickets. Winchester have had their on sale for about a month because they need the revenue where this season was disrupted, first by the weather and now Covid 19. This is almost certainly normal for non-league football at the moment. I do not think it will be long before the lower league clubs will follow. I think the cricket will be scrubbed this summer.

Beattie is still, I believe, the only player in PL history to score with his team's first touch of the ball.
