To finish the season behind closed doors, including the play-offs, a good idea? I think it is.

Under the current rules, it’s not an option at all.

I think the assumption is that when the lockdown is "relaxed" its very doubtful that the fans will be allowed back in stadiums to watch football...so the only real option is to play these games behind closed doors as and when the rules allow.

The proposal is fine, providing there's a suitable time ...

    ... which I can't see tbh.

At least the play off venue wouldn't be an issue ...

... if Wembley isn't available they could use Walsall's ground <laugh>

Certainly not having about 40 people in close proximity?

Yup, as discussed by most posters a short while ago. I agree, get all matches on TV or SAFCSEE, iirc most of our games are away anyhow..

If all leagues do the same some games on the morning, some in afternoon and some in the evening a feast of football
A certain gentleman who posts on here saying what games are on, would be in his element

Just play after 2 days rest

With the requisite doctors, medics, coach drivers, stadium staff, officials, etc, you'd be looking at around 200 people.

It's a nice thought but it won't happen imo.

They are saying it could be done once the restrictions are being stepped down possibly May - June, and the programme could be completed in 52 days, this seems a reasonable soloution to me, and not as unfair as the alternatives so far suggested.

I may be wrong but the players will need a pre-season once the restrictions are lifted ...

... and if there's one case of a player being infected the whole thing could fall apart.

I honestly think these proposals are just window dressing.

If they come up with effective quick result testing...everything gets easier, the say 200 people could all be tested at every game

In fact if we had had effective quick testing, from the get go, this pandemic would never have got so bad. Testing is a game changer as it were.

The more you put it in that respective Smug, the more it seems the season could actually be scrapped (which you tipped ages ago)

The unknown is the defining answer, like you said, at any given time a player of member of staff could fall ill.....and we are back at square one !

You'd have to have each player coming to the game separately, getting changed in their own car and the tester wearing a hazmat suit.

This is where the big problem lies. I thought it would be possible at first, but if someone catches it, all bets would be off again.

At least its an idea that under the right conditions would be imo the fairest, certainly not perfect . Only when we get universal testing will it be really safe, some of the stories currently coming out of the NHS are truly heartbreaking, and safety must be the first priority for all concerned of course.

If the season is scrapped, would that make Bolton the only team to be docked 12? Points and not be relegated.
Also would this mean that Bury would be given a reprieve and start afresh next season (I know it's not that simple).

The boy one is interesting. Hey went out of business and reformed as an amateur club I think. But this means they need to start afresh as if they are a brand new club next season if things play out. If the season is cancelled, If they can’t just “have their place back” (which they shouldn’t imo) then do you promote the top league 2 team and do on down the line until you get to the league bury are joining?

I personally hate the idea of finishing behind closed doors. It’s not fair on the fans.i also don’t think it’s a financially viable option for most clubs outside the top division

Finishing the season behind closed doors would just be daft ...

... the season's screwed, let's just all grow up and write it off.
