The one advantage that Trump has is that he could hide bad news...such as a declaration of war...in the middle of his speech and hardly anyone would notice
We are now officially the worst in europe. More deaths today here, than at any time in Spain and Italy. I know this isnt the politics thread, but that is shocking leadership when we had advanced warning.
Well we're not officially the worst in Europe as our death toll is lower than Spain, France and Italy.
Also, France was part of Europe last time I checked and they've had well over 1,000 deaths in a day. Get your facts right before deciding to use the numbers for your own political agenda.
So how do you measure it Os? The worst is the highest daily total? Or total total? Or per capita? Or how many lives were saved, or hospital admissions? Or more of an effective reporting process for daily deaths? Etc, etc etc.
Is finding a dealer essential travel, because my feet are itching! I'm not really off the wagon, but I'd jump right now for a bong and 8 hrs sleep!
Im measuring it by the highest daily death toll. (Which is the most accurate way to measure it on current data.) But also that we were given two extra weeks to prepare. We had cases here much later. And instead of doing anything we went for 'herd immunity'. And now we have a higher daily death rate than at any point in italy and Spain. And we are still very early in our curve compared to those countries and France. I am not trying to have a 'political agenda'. I was trying to point out some truths - when italy had 800 deaths a day it was a scandal. Here, we have 985 and the media are more concerned that boris is out of ICU. I honestly dont want to bash the government for the sake of it, because there are things they have done well. I also fully accept that it's very difficult to measure the disease accurately, and a difficult situation to manage. But the response here has to be looked at, and assessed as honestly as possible. I can't name one other country where most of the government has had confirmed covid. I also can't name one other country who's initial strategy was to let as many people get it as possible. I would be asking the same things of a labour government, a green government, a lib dem government, a UKIP government. This discussion transcends politics completely.
Bloody hell mate........if that is what you really believe there is not much hope for you. So what your saying is if you had been prime minister as soon as China had problems you would have known there would be a pandemic and got everything locked down. Sorry that is a load of bullshit.........
We were quite obviously about a week or two too late to enter lockdown though. And it's cost thousands of lives. This is simply a fact. (I have no current political leanings)
I, a moron with a decent grasp of statistics, was pleading for things to be shut down a month ago. That's not because I'm an epidemiologist or an incredible math whiz: I'm a half-bright person from the internet who happens to know how to plot an Excel spreadsheet. And I promise you, that's all that was necessary to know what was going to happen. Two columns, one formula, and a willingness to believe the data. The problem was that most weren't willing to believe the data. The data was scary, it suggested invasive action that no one wanted to take, and consequently a lot of people chose to dismiss it, not because the numbers were wrong, but because they didn't want to deal with the obvious conclusion. The government of the UK isn't the only one that chose not to believe the data...many countries resisted, and some still do. But math is cruel, in that it's just going to keep doing its thing no matter your preconceptions. Math doesn't argue. And the countries or states or provinces or municipalities that made peace with the math the earliest are the ones with the fewest corpses.
The UK was 7/10 days behind the Netherlands who were a week late given the information and advice available. UK strategy was based on behavioural science and herd immunity not WHO and other countries experiences. UK could have been two weeks ahead. The PPE, respirator, staff and other shortages were highlighted in the Cygnus pandemic exercises but ignored as pointed out by mail and telegraph articles slating the government. Johnson's gung ho handshaking along with the above have caused suffering and deaths. That's fact not bullshit.
